I need help! Got issues with receiving SMS on Huawei P20 pro.

I receive SMS from most people but there are at least two people who I only receive from when my WIFI or data is turned on.

Contacted network provider who was Smarty using Three's system. After hours going through settings etc they said I had a sim problem and supplied a new one.. Didn't work so changed network and am now with Plusnet on EE.. Still no better.

Basically if it wasn't for RCS I wouldn't receive SMS at all from at least two people.

Is there anyone who could possibly shed some light please?

Edit. Forgot to add, also tried my sim in older phone without RCS and didn't receive SMS at all from same people.

The texts will probably be on route from China after being quarantined for scrutiny.

At some point you will have probably added them to a block list by mistake,

What should happen when you struggle to receive an SMS is that it needs raising with the originating network, they will trace it to make sure there is a network handover.

Try this and see if it helps.

Problem is solved. This seems a bit silly to me because I thought RCS worked in conjunction with SMS, but it doesn't seem to. I thought if someone sends an SMS with their internet turned on they'd send an RCS which the receiver would receive as an SMS if they had no internet connection. It would seem that's not the case and the receiver gets nothing, no RCS or SMS.

That seems daft to me because the sender has no idea if the receiver has an internet connection or not, so has no idea if the receiver is or isn't receiving. Plus I can imagine that like me many people don't even realise they are not sending an SMS but are in fact sending an RCS.

I am only a user so I am more than happy to be corrected.

I'm confused, why would you turn data off?

Mainly because I don't use it. The majority of my work consists of driving and when I'm at home and need the internet I have a laptop with keyboard and screen plugged in on a table next to where I usually sit, so a TV on the wall in front of me a screen to my right.

Edit. Also, as you asked smile the provider I was with and am now going back to is £7 per month for unlimited calls/texts and 2G of data. if you don't use the data they deduct £2 off your bill. The only time I need data is to occasionally send a photo related to work and photo messages with that provider are free, so turn it on send photo then turn it off. Plus I only need to charge my phone once a week, with data on I need to charge it at least three times a week. Not as though I'm tight or anything just don't see the point if I don't use it.

Sounds like the iMessage function of iPhones...but there's an option to send via normal SMS if the recipient isn't on an iPhone (or it it fails).

But if you hardly use data, then it won't matter if you have data switched on, as you'll only use it when you need to send/receive RCS messages.

Exactly like the Imessage function which I'd never heard of either until I started to learn about RCS. I've turned it off completely now because I just don't need it. The one person who I do need to receive messages from has turned his off for me only which is an option.
