Last Blackburn Beverley at risk
Discussion
Hello,
Not a good time for large historic aircraft in the UK what with the situation at Bruntingthorpe. The last Blackburn Beverley is up for auction in Sept. It's been moved by road before but it's a mammoth task.

What a depressing auction

"Members of the public have been speaking of their shock and upset after the sudden closure of a popular museum – and the reason why has been revealed.
In a statement on Monday, owners of Fort Paull announced the museum would not be reopening this coming April because of "unforeseen circumstances"."
But I'm tempted by an AA gun for the front lawn.

I quite fancy the idea of the Argentinian anti aircraft gun. What an awesome thing. Sadly I have been forbidden to bid on any of the AA guns.

I did read years ago that it can perhaps be dismantled and reassembled once more without falling to bits. Unless someone has the facility to store it indoors I don't think it'll last long in any case. Not a good time for large historic aircraft in the UK what with the situation at Bruntingthorpe. I still remember the one at the Southend museum which you could go inside, one small section still exists at Duxford.
It's quite cheap at the moment isn't it
I briefly imagined 'the conversation' with my wife.

Weird selection of 'objets' though, isn't it? I'm quite tempted by the Centurion tank workshop manuals. I haven't got a Centurion, but then I haven't got a Lotus Excel either, but nevertheless have bought the Lotus workshop manual.

The one at Fort Paul is ex Royal Aircraft Establishment, Farnborough.
Many people forget that the RAE Farnborough sister Bev (XB261) to the one at Fort Paull (XB259) was flown into Southend airport in 1971, for display, and then slowly deteriorated out in the coastal air for the next almost 2 decades before serious corrosion issues saw it being scrapped, ironically the same year that the Hendon Beverley was also scrapped, 1989.Eric Mc said:

This plane was situated outside the fabulous Museum of Army Transport in Beverley from 1983 until it closed in 2003.It then went back to Paul, which was where it's last flight landed in 1974.
Such a shame.
Along with our marine heritage these sort of things are at serious risk of being lost.
Large, costly or almost impossible to move, costly to maintain, and of no material use beyond a static display. As members of the public we can do our best to support these things by visiting them and stuffing a decent amount of paper folding into the donations box, but beyond that, few have the space or resources to house such as item.
Sadly many museums and collections hang in my the skin of their teeth, relying on inexpensive accommodation and short term leases, which in turn often pivot on a single elderly land owner.
