Hi all, after some help connecting my laptop to a new TV. Never had a problem, always connected via HDMI for the laptop to the TV, worked fine for ages. A couple of weeks ago my TV broke so i had to get a new one, and for the love of god i cannot get the laptop to show on the TV via HDMI, the screen is just blank.

The laptop shows its connected to the TV but there is no signal showing on the TV. The cable is fine as it works on another TV and changing to other HDMI ports makes no difference. I've not changed any settings on the laptop (that i know of) but i just cannot get it to work.

Laptop is a Lenovo, the TV is a Philips 7800 series 4k thing. Can anyone help or shed some light on this? I am not very good with computers so any help would be enormously appreciated

Have you changed the screen setting to either use external display or dual display?

On my Dell I somethimes have to do Shift F8 to get it to cycle through the display options - lap top only/lap top + TV/TV only

Thank you, no joy with any of those options sadly

Try experimenting with the Windows key and "P" on the laptop.

You've presumably tried different HDMI ports on the TV ?

Is anything else working through the HDMI ports? DVD player, fire stick etc?

No joy.

Ive tried the HDMI ports my SkyQ and XB are plugged into, nothing. It has to be the laptop, but then it works on another TV fine??

And the cable you're using definitely works?

How about if you plug it in whilst the laptop is turned off, then turn it on.

It could be the new TV & the laptop aren't getting the HDMI/HDCP handshaking right so no picture is being displayed. That would be tricky asI'm not sure what you can do about it.

100%, it works on the other TV fine, ive also tried the XB and Sky HDMI cables too, nothing.

ETA - it now doesnt work on the other TV (it did last week), must be laptop settings?
