Introducing people to Pistonheads.

Just on my way back from Blockbuster in my scruffy tracky bottoms and an old t shirt when i saw a wrx sti in the local hand car wash.
What realy caught my eye was the fact that the owner was old enough to wear his bifocals on the end of his nose.
I walked a few steps further and hesitated several times.
Sod it, i thought and approached him thus:
"Excuse me, sorry to bother you but i just noticed your car"

If it wasn't for my specs i'm sure he'd be thinking " pi$$ off chav", but he nodded.

" have you ever heard of a site called Pistonheads?"

"no, i havn't "

I was bewildered for a moment. Strange realy. I thought that everyone with decent cars knew all about us.
He turned his head away from me in what seemed like a well practiced brushoff so i decided to part with :
" It's for people who like nice cars " Still confused i added " not for young people"....PMSL now but i was sure he thought i was a chav trying to sell him some tupperware for his RIDE.

I just hope i didn't spoil the introduction too much

Any one got any tales of off the cuff introductions to PH? or a better chatup line so to speak:

Not for young people....FFS! when all i wanted to say was chavs.
Anyway, iv'e just nearly wet myself with laughter after thinking it over. As soon as he said "no", i just kept thinking " whatdo you mean, NO?"

I was introduced to PH by someone I know. I haven't tried introducing anyone yet.

I've not tried approaching strangers, but I've distributed at least 15 PH 'calling cards' that Ted sent me (and a few others). I usually only distribute them to TVRs, though.

I have put the cards in allsorts of vehicles - usually TVRs, but other stuff too like the VW Camper with a Le Mans camping pass I saw today or the Elise at uni with a 24 Hours banner in the window!

Once tried to introduce someone with a Noble who told me his login name as soon as I mentioned the site! Easy sell there

My 2 best mates were introduced by me talking about my exciting tales of fast cars and funny people!
Even had them come along to my PHPPU's

I was introduced by a fried posting links to the site on MSN so he could click them easily. I was nosey so had a look around and found it all really interesting

Hmmm. I've introduced a couple of people who never post, but I know someone who's interested in coming to a meet.

I stumbled across PH by accident. A friend of mine was looking for funny pictures of awful Laxxed cars to laugh at, and I came across PetrolTed's rants after searching for funny car stuff, and I was hooked. Unfortunately I only got regular internet access nearly two years later.

Have introduced one mate and have shown the site to a number of others, two who are using the classifieds to look for a new car.

Have put a message on the Website Feedback Forum asking about how to get hold of some calling cards if anyone else wants to get some as I have seen many cars about that might have a peek.

I had some cards from Ted. I keep then in the car and have left them on a few nice cars in and around Peterborough.
