Top Blokes - Fernhurst Motor Co
Discussion
After 4 months ownership, I Took my Chim into Fernhursts (from whom I bought it) this morning. I had a experienced a couple of the dreaded "Hot Start" (Or rather, hot non-start)incidents.
They welcomed me with a coffee (and even remembered how I take it - white, 8 sugars), and had time for a good old chat. Since I reluctantly had to go to work, they provided me with a brand new, air-conditioned VW Polo as a courtesy car, and off I went.
I got a call from Bryan Sutton about 2pm, saying they'd made the necessary fix, and "done one or two other things". When I got there, I found they'd they'd removed, cleaned and re-sealed one of the rear light covers which had been letting water in slightly. My handbrake was also somewhat more effective than when I dropped the car off this morning.
They gave me my keys, and when I mentioned settling the bill, I was told firmly that there was no charge. It was "all part of being a Fernhurst customer."
What top blokes! Thoroughly recommended

Superb blokes. Bought my Tiv from them and always get it serviced there. Only downside is they keep suggesting I test drive a Tuscan... Cos they know if I drive one, I'll buy it!
You are all spot on - never tried to sell me a Tuscan when I bought my Chim 2 years ago as Drew said I would probably find it too much to begin with. Honesty I can handle. 2 years on,my 5 litre boy racer exterminator continues to be as good as gold, sadly living in Wales I miss the Fernies customer service..sob sob.

I don't want to spoil the party, but I found that whilst they were always very affable and welcoming, the Griff they sold me had several inexcusable faults that meant it did not warrant the new MOT they sold it to me with. Email me if you want details.
Paul.
Paul - you have mail.

I've always found them to be very good.
All firms, be them motor trade or other make errors. The sign of excellence is how they respond to a problem. Did you advise them of the situation & ask them to correct it?

Umm.. I did the faults that I spotted immediately after taking the car home. The most serious faults turned up at the next MOT a year later. I did not contact them then because I felt I would have great difficulty convincing them to take responsibilty after a year had elapsed. In view of the nature of the faults and the minimal mileage I had done in that year (Summer only driving), I cannot believe the faults developed in that year. In fact I know (with hindsight)that some were present when I bought the car. I do not want to go into more detail at this stage as Fernhurst (to their credit) have responded to my post through Ted. We will see what transpires.

whats this hard cheese me thinks i think you need to be less spineless if you thought there was things wrong with the car why wait a year to complain
or slag them on this site
i bought my cerb 2 years ago the entire fernhurst staff are the best guys i know if theres a problem you tell brian and he fixes it you do know that brain is head spanner man there not paul maccenna or urie geller
the one to blame is your self so dont be a mouse be a lion and roar
I can't say enough good things about Fernhurst - I've never been unhappy with them, in fact quite the opposite.
If you have had a problem then you should take it up with them directly. Obviously if they palm you off in an unprofessional way, you could let Ted know for example... but I don't think it helps to make a negative post - I also know that Ted discourages this.
Frankly, if it took you a year to find the fault then it can't have been that serious..... also I reckon you're more likely to find a problem if you don't drive it .....

Firstly, I have no complaint about the attitude of the staff. Very nice blokes etc.
Secondly, read this thread more carefully. My original post was simply to make people aware that even with Fernhurst, there can be problems, nothing more than that. Apart from that, as far as I am concerned, the whole thing is dead and in the past. I was surprised when Ted contacted me to say that Fernhurst wanted to know the full details. I have given them and have since heard nothing. So I am beginnining to think that nothing more will come of it.
I did not wait a year to complain, some faults did not come to light for a year. Again, read the thread more carefully. No one expects Brian to be a clairvoyant, least of all me. If they do want to take any remedial action now after over 2 years have elapsed (not sure what, everything has been fixed now) then I will be very impressed.
Lastly, the tone of your post is rude and aggressive.
I doubt if you would be like that if we met face to face, so why do it here?

I don't want to inflame this debate, as I don't want to influence any response by Fernhurst, but I will say that it's unwise to make that sort of comment without being in possession of the full facts.
If you did, you might have a different mindset.
To say that there should be no negative posts whatsoever is ludricous. Ted is not taking that attitude. I was simply trying to give a more balanced view of Fernhursts. As I have said elsewhere, apart from that, the matter (but not necessarily this thread) is dead and buried as far as I am concerned.
The faults that revealed themselves after a year arose at the next MOT.
On a positive note, I bought my car from Fernhurst partly because of their excellent reputation, and I would buy from them again. Only this time I would be much more vigilant and rely far less on their reputation.

My son left his "Thomas the tank engine" train in a Fernies courtesy car - those with kids will appreciate the anguish caused by the loss of the favourite toy! A quick call and the train was found under the seat and posted out. Two days later I got a phone call because it was returned to them since I'd moved a year or so ago and the address hadn't been updated on Fernies PC.
The next day Thomas arrives nicely packaged in bubble wrap.
Oh, and the Grif service was competitive too!
