Hi All,

I need help with password storage, at work I regularly need to access 15/20 sites per day which all need passwords (these also need changing every 30/60 days) add this to my personal stuff, banking, PH etc. I am finding it a nightmare and currently have them written in a book, I know its wrong!!

Windows 10 at work and Samsung S8

App store has several password apps but does anyone have any recommendations on ones they use, the easier to use the better!

Cheers

RL

1Password or LastPass or BitWarden would be where I would start.

Or KeePass if you want to do it for free.

Honestly as good as KeePass is at what it does if you want something simple to use that can sync across your devices KeePass aint it.

I used to use Lastpass. Nothing wrong with it until I had some glitches with my browser of choice, so I switched to BitWarden. Much better

The free version of Lastpass is what you need. Just make sure your master password is too difficult to guess but not so difficult that you forget it...

I use Keepass, but I keep the actual file in a Dropbox folder - that way the file is secure and the same one is used across all my devices.

I just use Google Chrome for password storage, and the suggest a strong password. Well that and 2fA obviously.

Interested in why you say that. I’ve been using KeePass for years. With the file on Dropbox it’s accessible across my laptop, client machines and iPhone.

Interested to hear if there are better options out there

I'm not suggesting KeePass is "bad" far from it.

But if someone asked me for something easy to use across multiple devices I can tell them to setup a DropBox account and download KeePass and Dropbox on all their devices (choice of 8 KeePass clients for iPhone?!) and setup a KeePass database on Dropbox and get it all syncing.

Or I can tell them go get a 1Password or LastPass subscription and be done in 5 minutes.

So I guess "better" is relative and in this case it's more about convenience and ease of use than it is security.

Sorta. I use it as they say above, with dropbox, and therefore on my phone and computers. Yes, it's more complex to setup, but it's also free. So it's not just convenience vs not, it's free vs convenience.

I chose free, others are welcome to spend money and I don't doubt they'll have it a bit easier.

Same here, I suspect the Google Password manager isn't known widely. I use it across multiple devices, combined with a v.strong main password and 2FA.
I use Google phone's and the passwords are synced with G Board for easy accessibility on the device, or you can access them in a tab in Chrome if the occasion arose. I presume it's similar across other Android devices?

Combine that with multiple switchable user accounts on Android and it's easy to secure multiple password lists e.g. personal, work, club, volunteer etc

1password user here. It's brilliant.

100% synchronised accross anything you need it on, and will notify you if a password is too common across your logins. It will also monitor the web for any of your passwords that have been compromised when someone has been breached.

I use it for more than web stuff though, i can also refer to is for SSH passwords where i've not set up keys and those are stupid long. It's dead wasy and you can have vaults for multiple uses. Personal, Work, Family etc. etc. Worth the subscription.

If course someonw will be along shortly to say that password managers are just an absolute gold mine for those who manage to hack them and find some way in. I'm sure KeePass was breached in scary short time and the vault exposed.

Nothing is 100% i suppose but something is better than nothing.

For ultra secure things i have a system that i've used for years that helps me memorise them but even that isn't perfect.

Never heard of Bitwarden but, after years of using Dashlane have now switched and it is better. Does slightly less but does it in a better way and, of course, it's free. If it continues to impress then I'll probably opt to pay for premium as I like to support those who produce useful stuff and while free is good, $10/year is unlikely to bankrupt me.

One or two bits didn't import properly from the Dashlane exported json but that could just as easily have been a mistake in the export. Didn't bother to check, just fixed the bits that were wrong as there were only a couple.

I use a mix of chrome and safari password managers ... both work excellent and their password generation is great too.

Bitwarden. Couldn't do without it. Brilliant.
