Injector coding without VCDS
Discussion
I have a 2009 1.6 TDI Golf that needs at least one injector to be replaced.
Other than a dodgy copy of VCDS or proper dealer kit, is there anything that else that I can use to code them once fitted?
Ideally a OBD handheld of some kind and ideally one that is not hugely expensive.
Any suggestions?
Foxwell do some options but I am having trouble determining if they will work.

Its a DS150 clone, you may be better off getting someone local with VCDS to do it for you, there'll be someone local with it, seeing the prices you are quoting on the other thread makes me think that could be the best way forwards, put up a wanted thread on FB or check the VW forums.
VW have had a look and kindly offered to fit a new injector for £867 and code it for a further £198.
Very good of them.
Meanwhile on planet earth... I've been looking online and it looks like I can get genuine VCDS for £225 with free delivery. That sounds a lot better than the flapping around with the eBay cables that I remember 10 years ago.
So, to recap, is it as simple as to following?
- Buying the injector for £350ish from Eurocarparts (they have Siemens VDO, which I assume would be good)
- Coding using VCDS
That would leave me with a £575 bill and the ability to replace the remaining 3 for £350ish every time.
I've done things like injector replacements over the years with no real issues. Black diesel deposits can be a bit of an issue, but that aside it hasn't been terrible. Thoughts? The thought of spending £4k on injectors at VW over the next 18 months doesn't exactly fill me with massive happiness.
However... my thinking has been complicated slightly by the fact that I spoke to two local VW independents today. Their responses:
- Independent 1: We only fit used injectors if replacing one at a time. Otherwise you will need to replace the full set to get them to work together. £700 including coding.
- Independent 2: We can't do this because it requires dealer level kit for coding.
Am I missing something? Surely every independent that calls themselves a VW specialist is going to have VCDS?
