Monitor Repair
Discussion
Due to a mixup with Dell and the worlds most stringent DPD collection driver. I have been left with a Dell ultrawide monitor which was Dead on arrival. A working replacement arrived but the dead monitor never taken away and dell no longer interested in it.
The monitor seems completely dead and receives no power at all when plugged in, no power LED etc. The monitor has an internal USB hub and when plugging the USB in, my PC recognises the USB hub and makes a connecting ding then a disconnecting ding shortly after. So the USB hub obviously needs power which is normally provided by the monitor which it is not getting.
I took the back panel off and took the power board out. Nothing obvious stood out, capacitors all looked fine, one was soldered in a bit squint but nothing showing blown etc.
Tested the power plug and wires connecting to the board and got a reading on the multimeter so that seems fine.
put it all back together and prayed but no luck, still just no power (using same power cable etc from the working monitor)
Dell dont sell spare parts and dont do repairs outside of warranty (warranty provided the new monitor and is now that that is warranted)
Is there anywhere that does proper monitor repairs (not just panel changes etc) that may have a chance of reviving the monitor? The monitor is worth about £1000 and is a shame to just have sitting in a box in a cupboard. I fear the non-availability of parts may mean this is a lost cause but wondering if anyone knew of anywhere that does this kind of thing?

If your screen was DOA then new screen was provided under that not warranty. Then the question is are the warranties tied to Serial number. If not, nothing should stop you from logging a warranty claim for a repair of a dead screen.Gassing Station | Computers, Gadgets & Stuff | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
