Ford... Good or bad?

So my best mates misses is buying a Ford fiesta this week and i believe she will be getting the sixth generation model. I've tried to warn her not to get a Ford as they have a very bad reputation as far as cars go. What's everyone's opinions on the fiesta and Ford in general?

It's a mainstream car from a mainstream manufacturer... they're all incredibly close in terms of reliability these days. European Fords are certainly no worse than any of the other European brands.

At that age and type of car the main thing is get one in good condition. They're all pretty much of a muchness.

They're very good & very reliable why would you be warning your friends away from them? OP what would you consider a better more reliable car than a Fiesta?

I have an Ecoboost Focus, 40,000 miles in two years and not a foot wrong.

Have you had a bad experience with Ford yourself in the past? Why warn them off?

Not me personally but a lot of people i know have. They also have a very bad reputation as far as cars go so I would swerve them myself.

Just wanted to know what everyone on here thought.

I have a mk7 fiesta but always quite liked the Mk6.

They're quite old now and I'd imagine they will suffer rust like most fords (most cars even) of that age. It's probably quite cheap. As said, go on condition and history really. No reason to think it'll be a bad car.

I've had no issues with my Focus in three years of ownership (from new). I had my previous Focus for 10 years, and apart from the odd minor repair - wear and tear really), it was fine and never let me down.

No offence intended to the OP but it might be a generational thing. My parents will not be told. In their minds Fords are unreliable garbage. They have no personal experience with which to back up their opinion. It’s just axiomatic: the Sun rises in the East; water is wet; Fords are st.

I have never heard of Ford's "very bad" reputation myself...

They have consistently out sold other manufacturers the uk for decades...

There's plenty of surveys that can give objective data on car reliability of course.

I'm a bit curious of this 'bad reputation as far as cars go'.

There are some Ford haters out there but the same could be said of any brand. Ford have consistently been best sellers in most sectors over the years and are well known for being great to drive, the Fiesta in particular.

I've had a Focus, Puma and now a Fiesta amongst various other cars and they have been no trouble at all. Not necessarily the last word in quality but they've all been great to drive and cheap to run.

Yes, but I’m in my mid 40s. Since Mondeo and Focus came along they’ve completely turned it around, and that was quite a long time ago now....

Some people still can’t get past Skoda’s reputation from over 25 years ago.

43 yrs in production, I'm sure they have managed to get it right by now.
Very little else in that sector will drive as well as a Ford.

I've always heard Fords were very good with reliability, and if it does go wrong it'll be dirt cheap to fix. It's the French and German stuff that will bleed you dry in my experience.

I've thrashed the tits off my Focus for 11 years, so far at the cost of a sensor plus consumables.
