I will probably get some abuse here, as i know mispaced plates are not popular here, but anyway.
Just opened the mail to see a letter from Gloucestershire constabulary, and instantly went "oh f
k, not again"
Only to read it and see its for the bloody number plate not complying with regulations
Ive had it on for nearly 18 months, and i drive this route everyday, so don't understand how they have captured me as i don't remember any speed vans on this day, and don't think there are any camera's here, unless they are going through the traffic camera's??
I don't think its that bad, and you can clearly read it....
Oh well, i guess i will change the plates, and reply to the 172 with my details, and see what the punishment is for my severe law breaking......

Not going to comment on the fairness of getting fined, but that font is just asking for trouble. Why did you put that on? I wanted the smallest legal plate I could get for my Camaro, so did this:
If you are just keeping the standard placement and size, you may as well just keep the legal font too.

I just liked it, its USA font, i took the chance that getting pulled by plod was very low (not been pulled in 18 months), didn't expect to get done by camera!If you are just keeping the standard placement and size, you may as well just keep the legal font too.

When I was younger, and more of an idiot than I am now (debatable) I drove around with a black & silver plate on my (2004) car. Like the OP, I thought it looked cool, but obviously - also like the OP - it was objectively very tragic.
I got away with it for about 7 months before a random cop pulled me over, and after we had a chat about it he mentioned he was into kit cars so knew that obviously black & silver plates weren't legitimate on cars as new as mine was. I was given one of those forms you have to take to a MOT centre (I forget the name) to show that you're now in compliance.
The point being - it took 7 months not because it wasn't illegal for all that time, but because there just wasn't an opportunity to get caught.
OP - your plate is obviously illegal, as you well know, so you have no legitimate argument whatsoever.

Look at it this way - you got to drive around for 18 months playing by different rules as everyone else, because you thought it looked good and believed yourself to be special. In that context - is it such a big deal that you've finally got caught, when you already knew it was illegal?
EDIT: So put proper plates back on, take a photo, and send it off - nothing to lose. I suppose you'll put the dodgy ones back on afterwards, so it is worth bearing in mind that repeated offences can result in the DVLA withdrawing the right to display the plate.

Yeah let's let everyone do whatever they want with their plates. The next guy can make their font a tiny bit smaller.. I mean they can read it so it's ok. The guy after that can make the letters grey instead of black.. still readable I reckon. The next guy fancies italics, because italics are super cool.. still readable, though maybe not by cameras or from further than a few meters away, but what's the big deal?tishness on the part of the rozzers imho. Whatever, the rules are clear enough. If you don't follow them then complaining for getting caught is a bit rich. I'm not going to complain about your plate, personally I quite like it, but the choice to break the rules always comes with the chance of getting caught.
I have a stick-on plate on the front of one of my cars, it's technically not legal although it does have the correct font and spacing to minimise the chances of any issue. In the event I get caught I'll shrug and sort it out.

No but ANPR might, or someone reading at night or In poor visibility.... You’d Probably complain straight away if someone hit and run but couldn’t make out the plates....tishness on the part of the rozzers imho. TX.
