I am just about to replace a cheap Samsung (The screen LEDs are uneven, and Richer Sounds are giving me a credit for anew TV.

I don't want anything over 43" as it has to fit into a custom book case. The last two Samsungs have both had screen faults, and whilst its rather wonderful to have this free replacement from Richer Sounds every 4 years, I want to move away from Samsung.

Picture is actually OK, Sound is just OK but I use the optical out for anything worth listening to.

BUT.. the flipping thing just is dozy. Sometimes it 'locks up' and seems to ignore the remote for several minutes. Other times it does as told, but with all the alacrity of a sulky teenager. And in fact the later TV was worse that the first.

Is this a Samsung problem, or do all cheap TVs have a long lag time from control inputs?

Edited to correct max size.

My mum's cheap (non-smart) Samsung is exactly like this. It seems to get better after being on for few minutes. I wondered if it would be better if she left it on standby rather than switching it off at the socket. Or perhaps a fresh battery in the remote would help.

I've never been a fan of Samsung TVs, never felt they were particularly good quality against their peers in that price range. I'd always go LG for a cheap TV.

I've got a couple of Samsung TVs which don't do that, they were mid-priced though so not really budget.

You could add something like a Firestick to decrease your reliance on the built-in apps, if that's what is slow.

The behaviour is just as if there's a lot of memory juggling going on, like in the old days of running Windows in 1Mb !

The other absolute bd thing is that Samsung use the apps to promote stuff. I turn the TV off on channel 1. When I turn it on, it's on 4003 which is TVPlus. I don't wont it, I keep removing it, but Samsung want to keep making me see it.

Do other smart TVs get used as promo tools in your home?

Mine (Sony) usually returns to the channel it was on when switched off (or put into standby to be more accurate). If your limit is 23" you don't have much choice anyway; Richer Sounds only have one under 24", an LG.

Yes, I'd realised that I'd put the wrong size in..it's 43"

I've ordered a hisense - know they're not hi end, but actually there's some nice things said about them on AVforums.

The VESA mount is low down on the hisense, as opposed to in the centre of the Samsung. As the installation on the wall is actually in the back of the bookcase with fixed shelves - I've got to move the wall mount down. Ho-hum, at least I'll get a better picture than the borked Samsung.
