Iv seen it done before where you remove the rear badge and smooth it over so it looks like there was never a badge there.

Thinking about doing it on my Touran before it gets painted but cant find anything about it. I am assuming im using the wrong term when searching google. Can anyone help?

If anyone has any knowledge of this, can you tell me if you need to replace the hole with metal, then use filler or can you just wack a load of filler in it?

Thanks

There won't be a hole. It'll simply be stuck on.

Use dental floss to remove the adhesive (sounds weird, but easiest non-damaging way). Then use a 'sticky stuff remover' to get rid of the residue.

Done. Don't think badges have been anything but stuck on for years

To clarify, i dont debadging.

When i say hole i dont mean a literal hole. I already took the badge off and painted it a while ago. There an indentation of probably 5m which the badge sits in. Wondering if its a small enough indentation to just use filler would need blanking off with a plate then filler to smooth.

Thanks for the quick reply

Not sure if it’s called de badging or smoothing but it was popular to fill the bonnet notch on Mk4 golfs

They where welded as filler cracks very easily

Your boot badge may be stuck on though so could just been peeled off

best speaking to a bodyshop and seeing what they suggest. I would think just filler would be fine, and then painted over.

Malwarebytes blocks that domain due to it hosting spyware.

Edit: Is it really worth the hassle and whatnot to debadge a Touran...?

Yeah thats what id assume but like a guy above said about cracking. I wouldnt want to risk that. Maybe blanking it off and then smoothing with filler would be better and wouldnt be too much work either.

The 'TOURAN' badge will just be glued on and will probably come off with a bit of persusasion and a hair-drier.
The 'VW' badge is another matter.

You could always colour code the badge the same as the car, wouldnt be noticeable and alot less hassle.

Yeah i debadged them within a day of having the car and the VW badge come off the same way. Then painted and glued back on.

Im going to be getting the car painted/dipped soon i think anyway so this is why im thinking of blanking it off completely. I dont think it will be too much hassle tbh. Just need to sand it down to bare metal. Then either blank it off with some metal and fill it or just fill it.

I will get in touch with a body shop for advice i guess.

I guess not many people do it anymore.

I wouldn't go that far - remove any silicon-based stuff from it with a decent panel wipe and sand it to key the paint. If the paint is basically good, there's not much to be gained from going to bare metal. If they're galvanised, you stand a chance of removing that protection layer.

Welding sounds like overkill for such a small recess. Filler surely would be enough?

If you want it to last a plate needs welding in....seam welding not just tacking.
Just using filler is the bodgers way
