Does anyone on here work for the DIO (Defence Infrastructure Organisation)?
I've recently applied for a Project Management role and been invited for an interview. I'd just be interested to hear any first hand experiences etc as to how it is working for this particular arm of the civil service.
From what I understand (and what the initial advert suggests) salaries are a bit below what you might get private sector but the overall package is pretty decent.
Thanks

Experience will vary depending on where you are. Project manager is a title used to cover a variety of sins.
The rate of how underpaid civil service jobs are varies by profession and indeed organisation, but project management isn't too bad by comparison to the outside world. The advertised rule of thumb is add 20% to the salary figure to allow for the (good) CS pension, then start comparing with private sector jobs.
I don't know first hand, but I would say your experience is likely to vary heavily depending on where you are - HQ vs out at one of the other sites. HQ - probably the more interesting projects, out at the other sites then I'd say the risk of it being a facilities manager job with the wrong title increases

Thanks for this. The role is based out of Devonport I think but then delivery of projects across the South West (Culdrose, Yeovilton etc). The role is also within the Major Projects department. The rate of how underpaid civil service jobs are varies by profession and indeed organisation, but project management isn't too bad by comparison to the outside world. As a rule of thumb, salary + 20% would be over my current salary but slightly less than my overall package so broadly in line.
