Clio MKIII 1.2 restoration
Discussion
Hi All,
Backstory.
Clio 3 1.2 16v restoration using scrapyard parts. Complete beginner.
Bought vehicle told there are power steering issues, attributed to steering rack. On first drive also experienced misfiring and Flashing CEL. Confirmed cylinder 2 with OBD scanner, leads appear corroded.
Did not diagnose myself, and pulled a steering rack from my local scrappy, bit hasty but was only £35 so no big deal. Hanyes manual doesn't include pictures for the job! However they narrow it down to the rack or the power steering motor. Hope I picked right!
Question 1. Have I damaged the steering column? When disconnecting the rack from the column, I resorted to hammering and prying them apart, wondering if this can cause any damage to the column? Any tips for the future of disconnecting these two.
Question 2. Old rack disconnected, trouble getting it out though. Anti-roll bar is in the way. How would I go about removing it? The anti roll bar was still on the scrapyard car, so not sure why I'm having trouble removing it.
Question 3. When removing replacement rack, I turned rods clockwise and anticlockwise, does this cause damage? Also, must I clean it thoroughly before installing?
Question 4. 10mm spark plug socket will not fit down where spark plugs are kept. What am I doing wrong!?
Pictures can be included if it would help.
My huge appreciation for reading, and for any advice which is offered.

Maybe. I've only done a couple (not Clio) and they were joined with a spline into a socket secured with a pinch bolt. Undoing the pinch bolt, adding WD40 and putting a flat blade screw driver into the slot to open up the socket worked for me. Didn't just fall off, required some tugging but not hammering.

Again only done a couple. Both required careful wrangling and finding the secret path that allowed the rack to slide out. A bit one way allowing one end to drop seemed the most effective, steering shaft gets in the way, ARB gets in the way, wheels get in the way, everything gets in the way. Getting the car higher helps with vision, access and available angles. If you did it once it must be doable. Just remember it for putting the other in.

Rod? Tie rods from rack end to hubs? No, they're supposed to turn, on a ball joint, allows for rod end adjustment during alignment. I would, and paint it. Longer life and easier to spot a leak if not already encrusted. Might also think about doing gaiters as well while it's out and in a bench.
Question 4. 10mm spark plug socket will not fit down where spark plugs are kept. What am I doing wrong!?
Won't fit? Is it a really deep well or is the socket too wide to fit? Does it look like this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ioCMxEryQWE

Thank you for your response, will definitely keep these in mind for the future!
As to question 4, the socket is too wide. Thought all I'd need is an 8mm spark plug socket, until I realised none were available for purchase. Very similar to the video you linked, however it's the generation above. You don't unbolt the leads, they just pull out.
