I've had a 987 Boxster S for a few years and the daily is a BMW m240 which has been great.

I think I am going to sell the BMW and buy a 911. A lot of the cars I like from various searches are the £60k+ mark which I could do, but would rather go cheaper if possible.

I saw this at Bournemouth OPC which looks a little plain and also manual but I am not necessarily anti any of that. What do you think it is missing, if anything? Seems to be the cheapest for my criteria (2012+, less than 30,000 miles)

https://finder.porsche.com/gb/en_GB/911-Carrera-18...

I should say my Boxster has hardly any extras, what you don't have you don't miss etc.

Thanks

For Bournemouth OPC that is a poverty spec 911.

Usually they have some well specced cars given the location wink I purchased my 12 month old Macan from there as the spec was considerable and surpassed anything locally at the time i was looking.

Its low mileage which is a plus but shows sign of the sea air given the state of the caliper bolts but will have 2 year warranty for anything serious, but Its top heavy price wise Im sure you could haggle.

Given the spec, what are your necessities given you have a Boxster and know what you like?

Good question! My Boxster hardly has anything - not even sat nav.

If I base it off my BMW, sport mode is a big plus, as is cruise control for long journeys. After that I don't think I am too bothered, but obviously may need to keep an eye on options for when it comes to resale.

Cruise control can be retrofitted so thats ok. And those wheels are lovely and very easy to keep clean

Less spec, less to go wrong smile

Brake calipers look like they've seen a few brick acid car washes, but assuming they'll be resolved in prep.

I would be finding a bit more if poss and running to 911 Virgin and whacking a deposit on their 9912S manual...!!

I'm biased (mine is an S and a manual and Christmas Tree spec) but a no spec non S car for £50 large seems a bit rich and even if you got it cheaper I'm not sure a 911 'deserves' poverty spec - it would always niggle me. I'd actually rather go higher on the miles providing the history and ownership were right than compromise on the spec levels.

Absolutely shocking prep. Don't think I've ever seen pics as bad on a OPC ad. They even zoomed in on the rusty bolt and faded paint. Clowns

You will find better cars I think. Also you may find the base model a bit lacking in power compared to how the M240 feels ( it has a gem of an engine)

If you want a manual you might find a nice T - OK cost you more but a better deal in the long run probably.

That is poverty spec. I'd look around for something better.

Thanks for all the feedback. It’s time to initiate the budget creep...

I’m normally not too bothered about buying from a main dealer but given the Porsche warranty I am leaning that way for this.

What are the views on buying from indies/private (although don’t seem to be many up for sale privately).

I’ve had my Boxster serviced by Cridfords who have been very good. I just wonder if an OPC makes sense as the premium gets the warranty. Opinions very welcome.

Thanks for this jetbox . Really loved the little bmw, and the engine is fantastic. I’ve done about 42k miles in four years and would be happy to keep it if I had to.

Got to laugh when people call this car poverty spec ! Me , I love these types of cars...Christ it has elect mirrors ,ac , elect seats, adjustable plain steering wheel ,n ice wheels and a very rare black rev counter ..what's not to like...if it's a daily the fitting of rear wiper would be a bonus. I do admit the prep on this particular car is poorish and not up to OPC standard ,however cars like this are a good thing in today's over the top world. Good luck with your choice.

Despite all of the “base C2 are all the car you need” comments in the press, non-S models take a hammering, and poverty spec would be even worse.

Two things I’ve learnt from having my fingers burnt buying a C2 - it must have Chrono and quite a few other options to be even remotely desirable, and it still must be cheap. When I was trying to sell my almost fully loaded C2 991.2, the lack of Chrono seemed to kill every conversation.

The OPC ‘tax’ is also adding a lot to the price of that car. Will be a lot cheaper elsewhere.

Hopefully this doesn't divert the OP's thread, but what do people think a decently specced (Chrono/PSE/heated seats) non S should go for, and is it significantly less than an S?

Appreciate I can simply view the market, and I have done including all the well known specialists, but this is merely a snapshot in time.

And has anyone any idea how much they've dropped in say the last year?

Cheers

Interesting comment re Sport Chrono. Do people actually use its features? I have to say I don't. Am I seriously missing out?

I can only speak from my experience, but the 3 places I called to try and sell mine all asked about SC and then said they’d only sell it SoR as a result.

I didn’t care for it, hence I didn’t care when I bought it, but I’d never buy another without it given the difficulty in selling. It mAmes very little difference to the car at all, maybe 1/10ths in performance and handling, but believe me to the market it matters.

Personally, I would rather have a modest spec Carrera manual than a highly optioned C2/4S PDK.
There’s something enchanting about the simplicity and purity of a base 911.
Couldn’t care less about SC, but heated seats would be nice in winter smile
