Failing Cerb Alternators
Discussion
It is funny isn't it. I am going to be so cynical here (only because it is Saturday morning and I am awake at this hour) but doesn't this just sum up TVR. In their desire to build a compact engine they do not think of the wider implications (testing?) of the enormous amount of heat generated by the engine which is why they put a hard-working piece of electrical equipment in the hottest part and then cover it with the fuel manifold. Mine went last year, got a new one, and am waiting for this one to go at some point in the future. I thought about running some ducting from the intake up to where the alternator is but lost interest.
TVR tested the AJP on the curcuit in the Tuscan series which was a great idea, except that the tuscans if IIRC had the alternator from the diff.
It is possible to have electrical components that work reliably in high temp environments, i have fans etc in my autoclaves.
Not sure that the alternator on the Cerbera gets any hotter than on the Griff/ Chim which sit next to the exhaust manifolds, but sadly a much bigger job to replace.

I was chatting to Yellow Peril at Thruxton and he did locate a company in London. (when trying to answer the same question) That could increase the reliability and lifetime of starter and possibly also alternator.
Something to do with silver soldering/uprated wiring and additional hi-heat clutch elements...
£90 for the re-furbish to hi-heat specification.
He should be able to point you in the right direction.
