Recently got an LG CX and prefer using all the built in apps to my previous Shield. I have no other HDMI sources so have linked the TV optically to my two channel hifi headed by a Linn Akurate DSM. TV speakers are disabled, hifi handles everything and it’s a nice simple setup. I’m not interested in surround, nor compromising 2 channel playback.

It seems the LG has support for some lossless surround codecs but not all. When using plex client most of the time the soundtracks are being transcoded to AAC and fed by the TV as PCM to the Linn.

What I’m interested in doing is trying to direct stream the HD soundtracks in native format and pass uncompressed 2.0 PCM via the digital out.

I can add a HDMI 2.0 and ARC support to the Linn but this won’t help significantly.

Saw something like this which in theory would let me bitstream from the TV over eARC and then pass the high res uncompressed 2.0 PCM over optical, in theory what the TV should already be doing but with wider codec support

Anyone have any experience of similar?

Don’t really want to spend money on a full blown receiver just to do this, unless it’s the only way.
