Help me out here please. I’m currently On ph under forum vxr8/HSV. looking to go back to Audi ownership.

I’m aware of the likely ramping up of taxation for diesel ownership and as such have been looking at A4’s with the 2.0 tfsi engine.

I’m aware of the excessive oil consumption issues, but the car I’m looking at has had the engine work done by Audi and fully documented.

In addition it’s had new clutch and dual
Mass done which Is a bonus.

Has anyone experience further or ongoing problems with the 2.0 tfsi engine, since having the work done by Audi ( under warranty or otherwise) that I need to be aware of? The car I’m looking at has done 90k, manual and on an 11 plate.

I’m considering going to view it, but it’s 150 miles away so need a heads up.

Thanks

Sean

Not the engine as such, but I wouldn’t touch that model in a 210hp fwd car with a barge pole, no mention if it’s a Quattro you’re looking at? The engine is great and if it’s had the remedial work I wouldn’t worry but it really has too much torque for the fwd model, it’s fine in Quattro but the fwd car drove me nuts in anything other than perfect dry summer conditions with wheel spin and axle hop giving it some beans.

They did 2 levels of repair on this engine, from memory. It depends how bad the consumption was and whether it'd been run like that so long that the bottom end was completely ruined. If it was caught early, the block may still be original. So long as oil consumption is in an acceptable range then should be fine - assuming the current owner has had it from whenever that work was done, you'd like to think it was OK.

clutch and flywheel change is a bonus, as they're not cheap to do with OEM parts.

We where looking for an 2011-2013 Audi A4 Avant Quattro with 210 or the special edition 220bhp version, manual like you (or allroad). So many duffers out there it is scary, we drove for hours to find what was supposed to be a perfect example only to find the engine bay looked like it had been in a swamp. Good cars seem to go within a couple of days.

In the end we decided we needed more space so bought a 2009 Q5 petrol. However within a week the battery was dead, it had original date stamp on it so 225 quid later and all is well again. Engine seem to pull like a train and doesn't seem to use much oil.

Also I wasn't aware even if the Audi MMI system has a button for telephone it doesn't mean it actually has bluetooth or anyway to connect to a telephone (apparent a 300 quid optional extra). Our has Nav, parking sensors, and full length sunroof which all seem quite rare. Good luck.

Tbh I’d never heard or the A4 dynamik, it was purely by chance I stumbled across one on a forum.
I’m a bit loathed to buy diesel as owners will soon be spanked re road tax ( that said I currently pay £570 for my vxr8)
All my journeys are short, most below 5-10 miles so I’d never really benefit from the diesel economy..

While looking at other 2.0 tfsi cars the next nightmare to pop up seems to be issues with timing chains that fail due to weak tensioners.

Is there a particular year when Audi addressed and sorted the problem, or years to avoid? The one I’m looking at is a 2011 model, meaning it could be an engine built around 2010?

What is the average cost of chain and tensioner replacement on these engines? If I go ahead and buy one I’d be going to an Indy if it needed doing

Thanks in advance, I’m trying to widen my knowledge to avoid a money pit
