My wife has been complaining I needed a new jacket, though there's nothing wrong with the one I've had for the last 23 years. Anyhow I was in Leeds at a business meeting that ended early. The next train wasn’t due for an hour and I was passing a shop in Briggate - Harvey Nichols it’s called - when I spotted a smaller shop nearby. "SECONDS" it said, on a big sign: ‘MANY BARGAINS TO CLEAR’. Well, after a short search I found a jacket that was ideal and my size. £150, it said, crossed out and "our price £50." Then that was crossed out … "£15" it said, a bargain too good to miss.
I took the jacket to the till. "You do realise there will be a minor fault," said the assistant. "It might have a slight variation in colour, or a small rip in an inconspicuous place or maybe just a mark somewhere."
"I've had a good look," I answered, "But it seems ideal and I like a real bargain."
Back at home I showed it to my wife. She smiled, "It's about time."
Taking it upstairs I hooked it on the wardrobe door, stepped back and admired it. And it was just then, the early evening sun shining on it, I brushed off a bit of loose cotton and I noticed the fault.
One of the sleeves was just a fraction of an inch shorter than the other two.

I want to have one of Lady Balfour's coats copied in a different fabric, as a Christmas present.
Does anyone know who best to use, by any chance? Midlands would be ideal.
Many thanks.
She has more than one "coat" or are you just a lucky guy.Does anyone know who best to use, by any chance? Midlands would be ideal.

is it to be copied to be worn by Lady B or by ANO.
Do you need matching cuffs and collars? I feel you may have fallen foul of a 1980s Sheffield expression re ladies coat, which would occasionally be broadcast on the Hitman and Her.
I can recommend Wizards Sleeve Tailoring in Bromley or Otters Pocket Needlesmiths in Bromgrove if they are still going, they both supplied faux copies of original material to the film industry.

Then since I am clearly not going to get a sensible answer:
A young chap wanted to buy a gift for his new girlfriend's birthday, and as they had not been dating very long, after careful consideration decided a pair of gloves would strike just the right note: romantic, but not too personal. Accompanied by his girlfriend's younger sister, he went to John Lewis and bought a pair of leather gloves. The sister purchased a pair of knickers for herself. During the wrapping, the clerk mixed up the items and the sister got the gloves and the chap got the knickers. Without checking the contents, the young man sealed the package and sent it to his sweetheart along with this note:
Dear Sophie,
I chose these because I noticed that you are not in the habit of wearing any when we go out in the evening. If it had not been for your sister I would have chosen the long ones with the buttons, but she wears the short ones that are easier to remove.
These are a delicate shade, but the lady I bought them from showed me the pair she had been wearing for the past three weeks and they were hardly soiled. I had her try yours on for me and she looked really smart.
I wish I was there to put them on for you the first time, as no doubt other hands will come in contact with them before I have a chance to see you again.
When you take them off, remember to blow in them before putting them away as they will naturally be a little damp from wearing. Just think how many times I will kiss them during the coming year. I hope you will wear them for me on Friday night.
All my love, Roger
P.S. The latest style is to wear them folded down with a little fur showing.
