cayenne brakes and warranty
Discussion
Our v8d cayenne is in for a service next week and i know that the front pads at least need replacing. However the front and rear discs are quite lipped (tbh they were when we bought the car).
I reckon there will be a phone call 'you need new front and rear discs and pads' when its in for the service.
Now, the car is on pcp and has about 18mths left. warranty is about 6mths remaining. should i extend it and if i was to not fit genuine porsche brake parts will they accept it for warranty?
I read that as they are consumables it wont matter with regard to claims but will with regard to renewing it. Will it be an issue when we return the car if the brakes aren't oe?
Lastly can i buy oe brakes which aren't direct from porsche?
or just stomach it? very painful as within the last 8 weeks or so both my work vans and tvr have had major works but that's sods law hey

Just buy them and be done with it. It's exactly what I did a a few months ago - admittedly I managed to negotiate on price but peace of mind knowing I needn't worry should I need any warranty work etc. A friend of mine saved approx £400 by letting someone else do it and was refused warranty extension at renewal. I find brakes last approx 30k miles, tyres (front) 20k, so the extra cost per mile for using an OPC and having 100% peace of mind isn't worth worrying over. It's just a bummer when they all come at the same time - spent £3.5k on mine this past few months...

My car was bought second hand. It had gaps in the service history because the previous owner serviced it himself. The tyres were not “N” rated and I’m sure there was more. 2 weeks after buying it I had a CEL so took it to the local dealership expecting the worst.
Car was with them for 2 weeks while I drove a brand new Macan GTS.
Total cost $0. “It’s all covered under warranty sir”.
I changed the tyres for another set of none “N” rated and then the brakes needed doing. $5k from Porsche. I bought none OEM parts and changed them for $600. I considered using the OEM ones but had never been happy with them.
Warranty still in tact until it ran out at which point I could extend but decided not to. Voiding warranties because of the wrong tyres is considered a joke here. I’m not sure how Porsche can get away with it. I don’t believe the BS about the wrong tyres causing suspension related damage either, and neither do Porsche USA.
p.s. the OEM brakes are cheap Maxtor ( I think) that generate equal amounts of stopping power and brake dust.

Thanks phooey, car looks great btw. what sort of money did they charge for all 4 discs and pads? I am guessing around 2500 all in?
its always all at once
Thanks mate. Full price is about £2200 from memory. I paid less than that. Same for tyres - OPC was less than 10% more expensive than taking elsewhere so just bought them from the OPC. In my view it’s not worth my time doing one bit here and another there.its always all at once

The car is with them now and sure enough all 4 discs and pads are on the agenda. I’ll try and have a bit of negotiation with them, that said before I dropped off I was told front pads and discs were 1200 so perhaps the tears will bring it to 2200 total.
The video also mentions the prop to transfer box is leaking. I assume that’s a warranty item?
