Looking for a way to mount an iPhone on the bars of my bike. I know there are a lot of cases out there but they all seem to require you to take your phone out of your normal walking around case then put it into the bike case.

So...... is there a case where I can fit an iPhone 8 plus inside, big enough for it to go in with a regular silicone case on it, touchscreen function still works, water resistant and has a hole in the bottom to fit a power cable?

Obv it needs to be able to have a strong mount which won't fall off.

An Oxford Dryphone case (not Dryphone Pro) just landed on my door via Amazon, but it looks cheap and I don't think it will pass the long term no fall off at 70mph test.

I use the ultimate addons cases and they do everything you want, apart from leaving the case on your phone

https://ultimateaddons.com/collections/apple-iphon...

Couple that with a RAM mount and you'll be sorted biggrin

I use Ultimate Addons but you won't be able to use that with your other case still on.

The Ultimate Adons cases.... is it still easy to use the phone when it is in the case?

Yes, but not with gloves on.

I’d suggest the Ram X mount thingy. Your phone is out in the open, so you may need to take it off when it rains, but it’s perfect otherwise.

I researched that.... about 3% of the reviews are negative...... because their phone flew out of the mount and went bouncing down the road before being run over!

It does look like the best solution, but I think it fails the 70mph guaranteed not to fall off test

Yeah I’m also looking at new gloves. There goes another £130.

Do you know if the touch part of the glove is long lasting or fades with use?

Do not put any phone less than a couple years old in any kind of motorcycle mount. The vibrations will break the camera. Trust me.

I’m surprised at that, it holds my iPhone 11 very solidly.

Arrrrggghh!. I just read up on this. There are a lot of people complaining about it.

There's a lot of people not complaining about it too.

Maybe it is on some bikes, e.g. big single cylinders, more than others.

Now I'm looking at this anti-vibration mount together with their mounting system
https://sp-connect.co.uk/products/anti-vibration-m...

Or maybe I should just buy a cheap second hand phone and use that for navigation. Or maybe I should just buy a dedicated GPS.

This is really bothering. I’m tossing up between buying the vibration reducing mount I linked above and using my iPhone. Or spending £300 I didn’t plan to spend on a bike GPS.

I have used a quad lock mount attached to the handlebars on a GSA for 30k+ miles with my iphone 7, then XS and it has caused no issues to either phone.

Right, iPhone is off. I’ve decided against putting an £800 phone on handlebars which are just going to kill it with vibration.

Have decided to buy a rugged Android smartphone which range from about £80 - £350.

Anyone on here used one on a motorcycle? I need to pick one which is readable in direct sunlight.

Yep, before I knew the cause I killed two Iphone 11 cameras with a handlebar mounted quadlock. I've now converted the quad lock to ram mount in the hope the ball and different location will change the frequency of the vibration from a "twin buzz" to a general "wobble"

I must be lucky! I mount my Hauwai on my V twin cruiser using a 5 pound mount I bought at a market in Thailand. its fantastic never moves, never been damaged by vibration, the power separate, from a USB connector originally off a boat, cable tied on the handle bar, so good water resistance for that as it sees poer even in the rain., The phone is in a clear scratch resistance soft case, yesterday I was caught in a tropical thunderstorm for 40km, left the phone on the handle bars with no extra protection than the clear case I use in my pocket, no problem.
I've never had a problem with the fiver mount. I looked at the ram mounts and can see no way the cost is justifiable for me, its phone not a child doesn't need a EU approved seat.

Any comments on using a phone with gloves? I've ordered a set of Held Rain Cloud II gloves which have fingertips which work on capacitive touchscreens.

OTOH I've also seen rugged smartphones e.g. the (CAT, of bulldozer fame, who also make phones) which apparently work with standard gloves.

According to Dr Google and a host of forums as far as I can establish the problem only relates to Iphone's with image stabilisation.

Your not lucky, your having the normal experience most of us are having with their phone cases....its just not newsworthy as bad news..!

Used and using my iPhones (6 and 8) on my Honda's and BMWs for 4 years now, using both a cheapo £10 Amazon power lead and a "plusher" £39 BMW USB, in all weathers , had the Ultimateaddons case in all that time with no issues to any of my phones cameras..

I use it for navigation so dont feel the need to touch the screen when im riding the bike, so dont fully understand the need to have the case functional for that kind of use , if I have the intercom fitted, I can make / receive calls using that...only used that once thou.
