Skoda superb - worth 23k or a depreciation disaster?

Looking for some advice please. I have a 340i touring which is costing me a lot of short term and I'm in a fortunate position of being about 1.5k up in it due to the market at the minute so could get out of it now if I wanted to.

I've seen a good spec superb 19 plate with 5kish Miles for 23k which if I add a bit of cash to will be a saving on the car, tax & insurance of about £270 a month.

I'm just wondering if anyone has any guidance if they think it's a good deal to get the superb and ditch the 340? Longer term I think the 340 will hold its value better but the short term savings right now are too hard to look away from as we'd like to save for my wife's maternity when we start to try for baby number 2 hence the bigger car.

How far in 3/4 years do they think the superb will drop? It's got the appeal of being the perfect family wagon for years to come and cheaper to run but I'm I just throwing a lot of money away for a short / medium term hardship?

Workout your annual mileage then times it by four then look to see what a four year older Superb is going for vs a 340i/335i.

In most cases the Superb will depreciate more than the 340i but if you need the room & want to start making the savings now then the Superb (personally I'd take the Mondeo everytime) is a decent shout.

Thanks looking at that method at the minute a superb is at £16k so about 7k depreciation over 4 years so about 1.7k however I reckon the prices are what they are because of the lack of second hand cars at the minute.

However there aren't any 335i to compare only 1 340 at 25k but seems to have sat there a while now

Unless that’s a private sale, remember a dealer or anyone else will give you £2-3k less than the sticker price.

Note the Superb has just had a facelift - I think a 19 plate would be a bit too early and have missed out. Worth seeing if you can get one of the FL cars both for extra kit but might retain a bit more value too.

I'm planning to get Superb Estate 272 4x4 L&K and decided 2 years old is optimal choice. Before recent price increases, you could get one for £22K. Now more like £24K, so I'm going to wait for prices to go down. Brand new is above £40K, so it's out of question. I'm not going to support treasury with extra road tax. Also, don't want new model due to some safety features which can't be switched off permanently.

I can't think of any other car with spec similar to L&K and at the same price range. I don't want SUV.

If you keep Superb long enough, you will provably save on maintenance comparing to BMW, to balanced out possible higher depreciation.

To be honest there's probably a bit more value in going for a 2018 with up to 15k on the clock.

Thanks so far! I should of stated I will need an estate rather than a hatch back! I'm also considering the volvo v90 too as the spec and quality on it is great and looking at depreciation isn't too bad either! There's one with:

12.3" Active TFT Crystal Driver's Information, Display Adaptive Cruise Control, Graphical Head Up Display, Power Operated Tailgate, Voice Activated Control for Key Functions, Power Driver's Seat with Memory for Seat Sensus Navigation Front Park Assist Road Sign Information Display Lane Keeping Aid

Plus all the standard stuff like heated seats and wheel and apple car play seems like a bit of a bargain. Only down side is 18" wheels but might get some second hand 19" r design in the future.

I paid £23k for my L&K 280 estate 16 months ago. 30 months old, 23k miles on the clock (registered end of October 2016).

I couldn't find anything else that offered similar performance, space and kit without paying more or going a fair bit older. It's a great car.
When I was looking, L&K 280 estates were not very common on the used market. My local Skoda dealer couldn't find one for me (I'd bought a Citigo from them a few months earlier, so they knew that I was a serious buyer).

Luckily a local independent had heard through the grapevine that I was looking for one, so he bid on it at an ex-lease auction.
