Dartford crossing - always check your statement

I recently used the Dartford crossing. As I use it on average 1-2 times per year, I pay ad hoc. So, when I got home I went online, paid for the crossing and left it at that.
Checking my card statement, they've charged me twice, on the same day, for that one crossing. A quick google reveals that this is not uncommon, nor is it a new issue. So, if you pay ad hoc I'd suggest you always check. Not because it's a huge amount of money each time but because it's the principle that they can issue a comparatively big penalty if you don't pay.
Seeing as they would have fined me £70 (reduced to £35 if paid within 14 days) if I'd made £2.50 worth of river crossing without giving them £2.50, what do you think the odds are that they'll pay me £70 for taking £2.50 of money without me making £2.50 of river crossing?

I think he has an underlying dislike of organisations which continue to make an error to their own benefit even when the error becomes well known. £2.50 may not be a significant amount to you or me, but there are many for whom it would be. Also, if the error is repeated several times an hour, every hour (not impossible given the numbers using the tunnel), every day, then it adds up to a huge amount. It must be fixed.
