Private dentist - cost for 3 crowns
Discussion
My lower front 3 teeth have been ground away over the years and I am thinking about getting them crowned. I have had the top 2 crowned previously and one of them has lasted 25 years (the other cracked in an accident) so that is pretty good going. I am mid 50s so I am thinking if I get these down now maybe they will last till the point where I am not bothered lol.
I googled this morning the average cost of a crown privately in UK and it came up with about 400 pounds. I then searched my dentist website and found a price list - 900 a tooth!! this seems a big disparity what is everyone else paying? does it get cheaper if you have 3 done at once?

Dentist prices vary hugely - i think i paid about 350 for mine
the crazy thing is you could go to a dentist in a different part of the country and save money even if you stayed overnight.
There is a type of crown called CEREC - you can get the crown made and fitted on the same day. i had some inlays done and the dentist did me a discount for having 2 at a time so if you are having 3 you might be able to get a deal.
definitely shop around.

Crown will usually cut any good tooth left. Have a google for a restorative methodology called "bioclear" - The tooth is cleaned then wrapped in monolithic composite, then shaped, avoids removing healthy tooth or risk of chips you get from veneers/layering. Also reduced lab bills so cheaper than crowns
My wife has a MSc in restorative dentistry and believes Bioclear offers the best way to restore worn or cracked teeth, she rarely does crowns now. There are quite a few bioclear certified dentists in the UK. Happy to pass on your details, she does virtual consults post covid. She might be able to recommend someone in your area alternatively

This is interesting, my teeth need a bit of work and I have been putting it off due to my dislike of going to the dentist and that cosmetic treatments can be quite intrusive to the teeth already there. I was hoping modern technology would come up with a solution that is less intrusive, less pain and less cost, so maybe this is way forward! My wife has a MSc in restorative dentistry and believes Bioclear offers the best way to restore worn or cracked teeth, she rarely does crowns now. You are always going to have a range of prices, not all crowns are made equal. Depends on type of crown, quality of technician making it, type of dentist, skill and experience of that dentist.
I am not saying that expensive guarantees it’s better but you should be able to ask about who makes it and what type of crown is being proposed.
I have done crowns where the lab cost alone was £400 or more.
Shop around but don’t go by price go with the dentist you feel is giving best value for money for your needs. If you don’t care about aesthetics a cheaper crown can always be made with a cheaper technician but may not look lifelike. But that is not always needed. if you don’t care much about aesthetics spending more on a crown that “looks the same” is pointless. If you can’t see the difference it’s no point spending the money.
CEREC crowns... I would stay away unless inlays but not on same level.
