I regularly drive to and from London on the M4, and have heard rumour that the Scamera BAS*ARDS are using average speed detection techniques in the Leigh Delamere to Oxford region. Does anyone know whether this is true? (any NiP's etc.?) Or are there only fixed cameras at the roadworks and mobile cameras on bridges?

I saw a dodgy looking double CCTV camera device on the side of the motorway the other day at the Oxford/Newbury junction, and another 10 miles further on...it didn't appear to be a SPECS device, but you never know...

Any info re. this really welcome! (will sleep easier and all that...)

I HATE this government and all things Scamera related! Lies and taxation.

Could be similarly ed (day before Eastbound...) as well as a previous journey a couple of weeks ago.

Really PIS*ES me off as the overwhelming majority of accidents/near misses you see are a direct result of BAD DRIVING (lane discipline, inattention, stupidity, tailgating, not checking blindspots etc.) NOT speed. Saw some real howlers yesterday/day before, and none of them speed related.

80 or 90 in my car is WAY safer than 70 in some clapped out piece of 15yr old sh*te that scrapes its' MOT...

very old urban myth.

they've just recently announced that there will be more camera vans about and that they will enforce the 70 limit though

The 6 pot AP Brakes on my HSV, would I guess stop the car from 100mph in at least half the distance that my 1964 Jensen CV-8 would take to stop from 60mph. But who cares? Remember "Speed Kills", "Less Speed = Safer Roads, Fact" etc. etc.

Just remember that the official line is that between J14 and J18 they operate mobile scamera vans from the bridges. Ok, rarely are they there and in all reality the signs are only present from J15 to J17, but do look out.... you dont want to get caught...

That said, in the time that it has been "operational" I have seen more accidents. Usually because of trucks or bad weather. So they look to be doing their job then???! Oh, and like I mentioned have seen scamera vans three times in a couple of months so they are rarely there....

Just 'cos its 15 years old doesn't necessarily mean its shite.

My car is well serviced and aced its last two MOT's,thankyou very much.

back O/T, hope not, went through both ways last friday at 80ish - nothing yet, although i am half expecting the bs to try it on for me happening to be in the picture in the temp 40 limit, (doing 40) when someone went through at around 70 and set the gatso he had obviously not seen off. I tried resting foot on brake pedal without slowing to to warn him.....didn't take the hint
He sure slowed down once it flashed though!
