Why do I get the feeling you're not telling us the whole story?

Details. More. Lots of them,

Why did they say they had cancelled your policy?

Hold on, you wouldn't confirm to your own insurance that you were in an accident? Why? Did they cancel because you wouldn't confirm? If so, seems like your fault and cancelled insurance is a big red flag so expect big cost rises...

Why didn't you converse with the insurance co? Sounds a bit wkerish to say you don't confirm or deny .

There really is more to it than that. Why would you not admit that you had an accident when asked? There aren't that many reasons why an Insurer would cancel a policy, so let's have the full story.

If it were 50/50 you'd lose NCB (unless protected).

50:50 would still mean an NCD loss.

Seems a bit... odd to have spoken to your insurance and essentially “no comment” them?

There’s a difference between admitting fault and not even admitting being in an accident...

Even if protected you still get increased premiums due to the claim.

Yup, I think this is the problem. You are supposed to work with your insurer and answer any reasonable questions, and responding you can neither "confirm nor deny" is specifically working against them.

They aren't going to go 50/50 for that, they will say "Sorry, our client is being an arse, we are going to have to take full responsiblity and pay everything"

Although there is an important chunk of information missing, I will ask. Who are you insured with at the time of the accident ?

Doesn't quite add up this...

Women ran into rear corner of my car whilst parked. After some convincing on my part managed to extract her insurance details from her.

She completely ghosted her insurer, wouldn't pick up the phone, ignored letters, refused to let them examine her car and was generally abit of a stupid *****.

Her insurer didn't cancel her insurance, they simply kept kicking the can down the road and dragging it out. Why didn't the OPs insurer do the same?

Got to the point my insurer issued court proceedings against her directly to reclaim the costs. At that point (about 4 months later) she finally contacted her insurer and they paid out in full.

As others have said your reply to your insurers will be why they cancelled your policy. Out of curiosity how many “not many accidents” have you had in what sort of time frame? Were they aware at time of taking out your policy of these previous accidents?
This could prove extremely personally expensive.

That’s not even an issue then. Have you tried calling them, be contrite and say when they rang you were neck deep in ste so are sorry for your initial response. It’s got to be worth a punt because if the other parties insurers come for you it will be a costly pain in the backside.

Well your (nieve at the least) attempt not to increase your insurance premium, has spectacully backfired. Sorry to say but you will suffer for this for many years to come. Unless you can persuade them to reconsider. But you will need some help in doing this.
