Car struggles to accelerate at low speed, low rpms, hi boost
Discussion
I uploaded a video clip of the issue.
https://youtu.be/bPp6VOeu6-g
Accelerating from stop, the car struggles to get up to speed of just 60 - 80 km/h. The boost is high at about 0.5 bar but car doesn't accelerate
faster and just hangs or takes a long time to get to 60 and 80km/h.
It's not bad when up to high speeds (100 km +) but from 0 to 80 km/h from standstill...it struggles... in the past I could easily get up to 80 km/h without going over 2000 rpm AND without going into any boost (it would still be in vacuum). 0.5 bar usually means I'd be getting a lot of power and accelerating very hard.
Any ideas what could be the issue?

Looks like limp mode to me.
What’s that orange warning light on the dash for?
Thanks for the reply. For sure not limp mode because I have had that before (twice) and know exactly what that feels like. Limp mode would cap off the speed limit and power and I'd have to shut the car down wait a few minutes and restart it.What’s that orange warning light on the dash for?
It's not that I can't drive fast if I wanted to. It's just there is this loss of acceleration only at low speeds and low rpms but boost reads high, and it hangs there for 5 seconds or longer without really picking up any speed. But after a few seconds once I get up to speed, I don't feel the loss of acceleration that much. It's just worst during acceleration from standstill and even worse with a slight uphill.
The orange warning light is just for me to change my brake light.
Honestly, nobody really seems to know this issue as I've asked even the experts at VW and mechanics, and everyone hasn't been able to come up with anything specific other than throwing a whole list of 20 potential issues it could be which I have made a list of:
Possibilities are:
-vacuum/boost leak /hose/cracked etc
-bad O2 sensor
-bad MAF sensor
-dirty or bad cat (due to unburnt fuel)
-coolant temp sensor (doubtful)
-idle air control valve
-EGR
-running rich
-LSPI (low speed preignition)
-leaky fuel injector
-bad injection set
-HPP leaking fuel into crankcase
-carbon build up
-wastegate issue
-other minor possibilities maybe a dirty/clogged pcv, TB, fuel filter, Diverter valve
What fault is the orange lamp reporting?
Has your ECU registered any fault codes?
It's wishful thinking to hope that asking the same question to a different group of people is somehow going to get you a specific diagnosis. You've been given lots of possible causes because there are lots of possible causes. Almost anything that caused the engine to run lean would produce these symptoms, as would anything causing excessive exhaust back pressure. It will need some diagnosis to work out what the problem is.

with out knowing which engine you have it makes it a little more difficult to guess. But, as coincidence, I just had very sluggish response from a 2.0 VW engine. The cause was the PCV. In my case, I could take the plastic engine cover off and tighten the PCV down as it was just a leak. Performance immediately returned to normal.
If you have to replace it, it is a cheap and easy part to replace.
