Please recommend a car.

Hi all.

New family car required.
Currently have a W211 estate, and need something at least this size.
If I am going to spend a few grand (budget c£6k, i live in the real world, not PH-world) I'd ideally like something the next size up really.
Instinct aversion to diesels, but one *may* be considered, before being dismissed.
Difficult to dismiss a diesel entirely as almost the entirety of the market of the 'big' cars are made up of them.

Just to let you know what i've been considering - 5 series T, X5, Honda Odyssey, Toyota Estima/Aeras, Range Rover, Discovery, R Class, GL Class, Land Cruisers etc.
Has to be an estate-type car due to hound requirements.
Fuel economy not a major concern as I'd rather run a petrol and spend money on that than run a diesel and spend money on injectors, DMF, DPF, Turbo etc
I know, this is a big ask!

I have seen these, and the main thing putting me off one (and the others which are similar, odyssey etc) is that it only ever seems to be traders selling and they look to be keeping the market prices artificially high for what they are.
Do you know if the rear most seats in an Elgrand fold completely flat?

I have a Chrysler Grand Voyager 3.3ltr v6 and it's great for the family, I bought a cheap one for £1000 off Ebay as a quick stop gap vehicle and I'm really taken by it so I've decided that I will give this one a year or so and upgrade it to the newer model for around £6000.

Looking at the specs of similar vehicles the Chrysler is definitely the better spec'd model from what I can tell, electric side doors and boot, heated seats, leather, memory seats sat nav, rear cameras/parking sensors, fully folding seats (stow and Go) basically turns the can into a van which is great.

Mines the older model.

Hadn't considered them at all and not a massive badge snob so wouldn't say no.

Hadn't considered the Galaxy, either. Like both those petrol ones.
Are all the diesel R Class Mercs a V6? I would assume so by the time they came out.

I've looked at XC90 and 70, but I'm in for a few grand more for a not much bigger/more suitable car than the Merc.
Also find the Volvo dashboards aesthetically difficult, but that wouldn't be enough to put me off.

If I was to look at a diesel XC90, would a 2.4 be any more troublesome than the rest of the bloody things?
