I know used cars are thin on the ground, but I’m amazed how much wbac are offering right now. The price they will pay on my car has gone up £2300 in 6 weeks and 1000 miles and I’m getting tempted to sell. The main dealers won’t even match it.

Interestingly they will give me what I paid for my other car which was bought as a pre reg 0 miles car in Feb.

How much further / longer do you think this will go on for before the inevitable crash hits?

I suspect people are holding onto their cars longer and more people are shifting towards cars so wbac might be desperate. I hope no crash happens.

Hopefully another 2 weeks at least, I need to shift a car and they've offered a decent price. Can't make the sale for a fortnight so I'm hoping they don't drop off a cliff between now and then!

WBAC prices are a direct reflection of the demand at BCA auctions. Prices are still strong, I don’t think a ‘crash’ is inevitable but things will settle down at some point soon.

This is very interesting. I am actively looking for a "new" car but finding it hard and thought prices were high. I'm wanting to buy not because of Cov19 but because my car is nearly 10 and it's time to get an upgrade.

I thought I would be able to get a good deal on a newish car but am even struggling to find anything on the market. I'm not saying I hope the market crashes but will it improve for buyers at some point? I feel the cars available are so overpriced

I whether dealers are finding our that finance companies are "max advance" funding, and that if they've paid hugely over book, it's causing issues?

I sold my car before lockdown and I was tempted to use wbac, but then I stumbled upon Local Car Buyer, they offered to travel to me, which was much easier considering I didn't have a mot and at that time they offered me more than wbac, i do not know what it would be like now, but worth a go, www.localcarbuyer.co

Out of interest I put my car through the EH website:

5 series estate with a few options, list was approx 55k
Financed on sensational PCP deal just before the pandemic hit
Car registered 2 months ago and has done 2000 miles

Valuation 22k

Guess I'll be keeping it smile

Seriously it was very, very heavily subsidised at a time there was nothing around even remotely competitive. Even if I wanted to clear the finance I wouldn't as I like the protection of walking away at term instead of stressing the disposal of s big car sipping the devil's fuel.

In meantime it's absolutely lovely

Cheers

Difference being (through mine and numerous others experience) that when you get there they will knock you down massively most of the time. Just sell private

Waste of time for me - " Unfortunately your vehicle does not meet our buying criteria, so we are unable to proceed to a valuation "

Prices are all over the place. Advertising one of my cars on AutoTrader at £28k and at that price it is the cheapest one I can find like for like by a big margin. Yet I've had little to no interest. Did a We Buy Any Car quote yesterday which came up at just £900 less than I'm asking myself. Is it really going to make that much more at BCA ?

I've just done a WBAC sale. They seem to be more ready to haggle at the moment (maybe they are allowing more headroom in the initial low ball offer?)

I find there are types of car that do OK at WBAC and types where they really take the Mick and you have to sell private... They're not good with anything a bit unusual.

Mine had been steadily going up on WBAC valuations, but took a £1k dip about a fortnight ago.

I'm selling my Dads Jag XE 2.0D R sport at the moment.
Not had much interest at the moment, but it's not the "typical" car that gets searched often so it will take a while.

Out of interest I put it in at WBAC and they offered £10,700, with the things noted (alloy wheel curb and what not). not bad. He's had an offer of PX at 11,500, I'm asking 13,500 private sale

My car is a 2017 M6, low miles, impeccably history and no marks on it, so unsure how they would be able to knock it down.

Will monitor another week and maybe go and see them and see what they will really offer...

Offers for mine on WBAC have increased by £3k in the last 6 weeks, almost to the point that it may be worth selling to them instead of VT'ing.

I'm currently looking for a new car and i'm finding used prices to be higher than they were even a month ago and supply has dropped off significantly.

I have hopefully found one at a main dealer but the selection has dropped off dramatically, does seem people are holding onto their cars longer.

I put my car (19 Merc C200 AMG Premium Plus Estate) into WBAC a couple of months back, and it was valued at just over £20k. At the same time, I tried Motorway. Valued at just under £23k. Decided I wasn’t using WBAC.

A couple of weeks ago, I tried Motorway again, the value had hardly changed in two months, so I added the photos as requested, including two scuffed alloys and a small nick in the plastic front bumper, and waited for the call to discuss the car. They reduced their valuation by £200 for the damage, and put it in their auction for that week.

Friday afternoon I got a call to say the best bid was nearly £1k more than they estimated, so I said yes, sell it.

The winning bid dealer contacted me on the Monday, and collected the car a week later.

They didn’t even inspect it on collection, which was a bonus as I was expecting to be chipped on the price due to a cracked windscreen and a cut in a tyre sidewall.

Happy to use Motorway in the future, but have used WBAC satisfactorily in the past with no haggling on price then either.

I just ran a quote through and the best price on Motorway was from a "specialist Jaguar dealer" and they offered me £9600.

Given WBAC offered £10,700, and it's been offered at trade in for £11,500, I don't think for me and my particular car Motorway offered anything over and above WBAC.
