Has a nice disclaimer at the end which give the brits the true credit, but only after showing the whole film and saying how the americans played a pinicle part in the operation of finding the machine and giving themselves most of the credit first.

I watched U571 well aware of the historical inaccuracies, but that didn't dilute my enjoyment of the film.
Sorry but I'm a big fan of Mr Turing and Bletchley Park, so just couldn't bring myself to watch it - even if it was a good film! Glad you enjoyed it though parrot of doom, just sad that lots of people who watch it will take it as being the trust.

The Americans and Hollywood in particular are notorius for doing things like that. After all they figure (rightly I guess) that Americans couldnt give a stuff about the world unless they are the ones seen to be rescuing it (or being heroes or whatever)

The Americans and Hollywood in particular are notorius for doing things like that. After all they figure (rightly I guess) that Americans couldnt give a stuff about the world unless they are the ones seen to be rescuing it (or being heroes or whatever)
I tend to agree, but then, its not like we have our own film industry to sell our own stories in the first place.
someone berated the yanks for remaking Italian Job with the usual "how can you improve a great film?". but thats not the point. there is nothing wrong in retelling a story, and when its Yank money it'll have a Yank perspective.
there is nothing stopping us making these films in this country. but its easier all round to knock the people who do. which seems to a be generally limey thing nowadays.

Well, when most Yanks got their historical knowledge from Hollywood, and then proceed to lambast us based on these lies, it's kind of annoying wouldn't you say ?

Its annoying, but theres nothing stopping us from making films that rip off Yank historical moments. Maybe there should be a modern based Comic Strip Presents where they actually do that?

Yes, but the thing is, us Brits would know it is done in parody. Maybe we should do something like that, depicting the Yanks to be baby burning imperialists and then start believing it as if its a documentary.
Oh, and by the way, Hollywood has a monopoly in English speaking movie production anyway, how can we compete with the 9 figure budgets some of their films have ? To make money, you'd need to appeal to Americans, and we all know how well they take being made fun of as a nation.
