Porsche 911 9971 9972 996tt
Discussion
Hey All,
Pondering a few choices in getting a 911 with a ~35K budget which places a few options.
1) 996 Turbo Manual but will be in the 80-100k mile range (have 3 options silver/grey private, black/black dealer and a black/tan private) as would want to leave 5K for a new head unit (even at the cost thinking the Porsche Classic) and for some likely required maintenance. I had a standard 996 previously, used it as a my daily, like the engine and like the styling but that many miles makes me nervous on something like this.
2) 997.2 C2 or C2S manual but seeking it to be <60K miles so have a few options (Black C2S that has a few sctraches in pics, White C2 and a couple of others). Not fussy on colour, but like, PSE, heated seats, extended leather. Would need to negotiate hard to make this work but dealer cars make less nervous about pushing the budget but it is not leaving much breather room. I feel its the most sensible option as they are rare and likely to remain in demand cars.
3) 997.1 manual Build, (2-3 options with have a recent rebuild) i have called RPM Technik and discussed a CSR but the price tag blows out really quick. But being fairly handy and having a full Durametric on hand i can do just about all of it that does not require a hoist. So for the budget I could get a car with but will have X51 power level, lighter/higher flow exhaust, CSR style aero bumper/ carbon ducktail, DSC replacement of PASM controller, Blisterin B16s adjustable suspension, refresh suspension rubber parts a bit, Adjustable antiroll bars, Wavetrac LSD, Light flywheel and clutch, short shifter, brake upgrade and a interior refresh with a Dynavin N7 + Alcantara or hounds tooth highlights + colour highlight gauge faces similar to CSR. But my concern is that its not a 'build' by a factory so all the mods are really worthless if i sell it.
I dont track my cars at the moment, if i did the 997.1 that might change as i have some friends suggesting i give it a crack. So fast road is the best description of it with some long distance touring (Based in Scotland).
The stick in the mud is that i plan to take the car back to Australia next Nov and need the car for 12 months before doing that, so time is ticking. This also means no CAT S cars.
This also removed Lotus Evora, GranTurismo, DB9 as they dont make sense $ to import after you factor shipping, duty, tax, tax on tax, paying for some guys lunch, discount for it being a O/S car, etc. Brave pill of a 456 is a little too brave for my running costs budget.
Any suggestions that might make sway the thinking as really not sure which way to go and COVID has kicked long trips for a test drive in the guts for the time being?
For the normal questions: All cash budget, own a house, i can afford to run the cars.
Thanks.
Taffy

My friend did this just ahead of emigrating to Oz with a 996 Turbo.
My advice, buy the cleanest standard car you can find, that will make moving it on out there easier, there are literally thousands of 997 C2/S's they aren't rare but good value, the CSR has a resale value here as they are a known entity but in Oz it will just be another modded Porsche.
Thats my thoughts.

Good thoughts, thanks and likely the CSR won’t pan out for many reasons. Loosening the mileage requirement to net in a few more cars to compare the 996tt and 997.2. A lot of black cars... need to increase the budget for wash and polish every 20min.
Called a few cars and I am not sure some dealers actually want to sell a car.
