Someone whacked my fuel filler cap

Went out to my car (which spent all of 30 mins of car park but otherwise has been parked up on the drive for the past several weeks) to find a dent/scratch on the fuel filler cap and a sizeable chip out of the paint on the edge of the "hole" where it sits.

Thing is, someone had to deliberately do this or drop something with significant force on to it to achieve this. It can't have happend with another car as other bits of the body stick out too much, plus it's quite high up.

Incredibly frustrating and have now put a camera in the window of the house (we live in what I'd call a nice area). Feels like someone did it while it was on the driveway.

Just wanted a rant really as I feel utterly helpless to do anything!

Any chance it could have been caused by some ne'erdowell trying to lever it open to pinch your petrol?

My dad came out to find his Mini filler cap on the ground with stilson marks on it and an almost empty tank...

Hadn't thought of that. But the dent is in the middle of the cap with the chip (where whatever implement was used slid off) is on the opposite side of where you open it. Fiancee is out in it atm but I'll pop a picture up later.

Could it be the corner of a rear door? Wife's Tiguan, whoch lives in shopping centre car parks, has a few dents caused by those.

That was what I assumed from the description

Either way OP, I'm not sure what else you can do

Certainly seems like theyve tried to get in and nick your fuel if not accident damage
