I tried to take a load of stuff to my local household waste recycling centre for disposal like a good citizen and was turned away. The issue being I was in a pickup. I was told the waste would have been fine in a car (quantity not a problem) but due to coronavirus they cannot accept pickups at the dump. The council website lists no such restrictions. I was baffled and immediately dumped the stuff in a layby.*

What is the most tenuous coronavirus related rule change you have experienced?

* not true, I took it to another centre, who after a bit of convincing allowed me to dispose of said waste in a responsible matter.

My fave so far was a dining pub that insisted on all the windows being open on that really blowy day last week "because Covid".

Yet none of the staff had masks on, unlike the two better quality restaurants we went to next.

were you allowed to take items to the tip in a pick-up previously?

We've always needed a pass obtained in advance - Because Commercial Vehicle (not the plague)

Going into our local, putting some hand sanitiser on when walking in then my mrs getting told off for putting her hand on the bar. "I'll have to sanitise that again now!" said the barman.

"I sanitised my hands not 5 seconds ago!"

confusedlaugh

Thankfully the pub is no longer so ridiculously anal about this stuff.

A (normally good) cafe near us has gone Covid crazy; you eat on tables separated by big plastic sheets.

No paper menus, so one has to look at the blackboard to see what breakfasts are offered. The blackboard behind the door in at the confluence of the access to the kitchen door, the coffee counter and the seating area.

In other words, in the interests of Covid you have to stand at the place where people need to keep squeezing past you.

Just yesterday driving back from our holiday, we stopped off for a break to let the dogs stretch their legs, I popped off for coffee at Costa.

The lady gave me our coffee's, I wanted a stirrer, grabbed her attention asking if it was OK if I grabbed one from behind the screen, they were on display immediately to the right of the little hatch in the plastic screen, she almost had a coronary, "no, no, one from here", all panicky, giving me a Costa branded paper bag with 2 stirrers already in it.

She put the lid on our coffees with her bare hands, making sure they were firmly secure, I can't grab a stirrer but she can fondle the plastic lids of our coffees and I never saw her once sanitise or clean her hands, in between customers or handling the coffee implements!

My wife was told she couldn't book a table for 5 people in a restaurant, because covid.

(I can only assume they have fewer tables available of even numbers only and want every seat filled, but who knows, still seems weird they can't move a chair around).

There was a story on BBC a few weeks back that organ playing was no longer allowed in churches because coronavirus, as the pipes blow air and so would transmit the virus around the church jester . I'm not clued up on church organs, but normal church organs don't have any pipes do they? confused

Then there's Sturgeon's ban om music in pubs because coronavirus, as it means people have to speak a bit louder than usual to be heard, which means everyone will die from breath travelling 0.00001mph faster whilst carrying the killer virus. jester

Around here in Gloucestershire you have to book a slot in order to go, and there is a 3 week waiting list of availability.

I went on Sunday morning (having booked 3 weeks ago), and there was only 1 other car there. Normally you would be quing to get in.

The chap there was saying its because people are booking a slot, and then not turning up.

Probably because they have forgotten, as it was so long ago they booked, or found other means of dumping their st.

Two things

Land Rover- we’re not doing courtesy cars because of Covid. Why? Because their cleaning crews are on furlough. A) their cars are always filthy so no change there and b) there’s a tesco car wash next door to the dealership. They found me a courtesy car when the above was pointed out and then took my car to Tesco to get Brillo padded when I had explicitly asked that they not do that. Knobs.

Pet Protect- we’re not taking calls because of Covid meaning our call centre is shut. But I can live chat them. Have they not heard of landlines, mobiles or heaven forbid we enter the 21st century here VOIP? So I online chatted for 20 mins with a customer service person where a sub 5 minute phone call would have had the job done. Numpties.

I have a soft top SWB Land Rover. With the top on there is no issue, but remove it and it's a pick up and not allowed in without a permit.

Just about everything in public at this point in time is quite preposterous IMHO. But the other day in the pub I had to stand 6ft away to order the food. Now, can the chap on the till hear me? Nope. So did we basically get closer and closer until we were in "normal" range and just chatted like actual people? Yup.

And recently on the road I've seen signs that say "lane closure due to coronavirus" - I mean this virus is strange, does it eat tarmac too now?!?! And I saw on the TV an advert about making pavements wider in London to allow for antisocial distancing. The madness continues .

The Mercure Hotel in Bridgwater. It is approx six metres from the entrance to the bar. When traversing those six metres your are told to wear a mask.

You can take it off again once you are in the crowded bar, but in the almost empty reception area, death apparently lurks.

Once in the bar you may not order at the bar without a face mask, but there is no need to wear one when the barmaid comes to your table to take your order.

In Somerset we currently have six known cases of Covid-19 our of a population of 600,000.

But they still insist you put it in a recycling bag

The level of paranoia is just off the scale. In a few shopping centres I’ve been to, they have removed seating because of fears that they can spread the virus.

Surely they were already covered with all sorts of bacteria and viruses long before Covid?

Ah, now the Covid-crazy cafe above wish you to don a mask to get to your table.

Obviously you have to go back to the crowded entrance corridor to try and read the menu hidden behind the door, meaning the mask has to go back on.

The issue is Bridgwater, not COVID wink

We had similar at a restaurant in Lincoln a couple of weeks ago. Guy at the door stopping people to make sure they wore masks until they were seated. As soon as you sat down, all bets were off, so what would this be achieving?

Yes, no issues pre-covid.
