noticed this a bit recently, when i pull away a slight mechanical clunk so stopped the car and rocked it in gear. there’s a kind of tinny clunk in both directions when in gear with clutch up.

anyone know what it might be?

Try asking Ian over in the e36 section on m3 cutters. He's the font of all knowledge generally. Sounds to me like potentially diff related bit I'm no expert.

Sounds like the centre support bearing on the prop shaft to me, second guess is the guibo.

Diff backlash most likely, quite common on the e36 dont think its an major issue as mine has done it for over 160k miles.
