NIP - 9 months later

Quick question. I dug behind the sofa for a lost remote control and pulled out an unopened NIP from 2nd January!! Standard speil - respond in 30 days or 6 points and fine etc. I’ve heard nothing since. Have I slipped through the cracks and “got away with it” or is there just a huge backlog due to covid and the pain is coming down the tracks...

I would be surprised if you’ve fallen between the gaps. There is a big backlog of court cases from the earlier months of the pandemic however you’d likely have received a summons.
Can you be sure the summons hasn’t been similarly hidden? Just FYI but the offence of Failure to Nominate has a slightly longer ‘expiry’ date,

They would have 6 months plus 28 days from when the nip/ S172 was served to commence proceedings for failing to furnish driver information, so give or take the end of January, so it would seem that unusually you may well have slipped through the cracks. As mentioned check your licence to make sure there are no nasty surprises showing you have been convicted of an offence in your absence maybe due to more lost paperwork

Did you really mean to say "for failing to furnish driver information" when it was "down the sofa" hahaha Bit naive to think you would get away with this to me.

It’s 2020, so ignore anyone here who mentions a Summons.Not out of the woods yet. You may have something pending if proceedings were instituted close to the deadline.
You should check with the police prosecutor. Contact details will be on the Notice.
Isn't it the case in England that they only have to lay information with the court within the timeframe to commence proceedings?
Different to up here where they have to have your arse in court within the timeframe.
As mentioned, I'd phone the clerk and ask if anything relating to this offence is laid against your name.

It’s very random, I put some cases in around March and they’ve just ended up being kicked indefinitely down the road... drink drivers etc too. Multiple adjournments for holding dates. Whereas some recent stuff has been charged to court 2 weeks later. March case still waiting!That was the gist of my point... the court paperwork might have gone awry but it could potentially still be in the system somewhere.

I seem to remember a few years ago a prosecution, l think for failing to furnish, was dropped or thrown out due to the summons not having been served in a timely manner. The information had been laid with the courts before the 6 month deadline, but for reasons unknown the summons did not arrive for a further 5 months or so.
