Are You Being Offended?
Discussion
Itv2 apologise before every episode of Family Guy. A cartoon that’s been on air late at night for over 20 years. Those tuning in know exactly what they are watching but they still brace the audience for a talking baby and dog.
The Sky EPG also has warnings on Only Fools and Horses too regarding someone language that would now seem out of date. Despite the fact they’ve already been watered down so much they are nothing like the originals.
Everyone is offended about something. There was a program on channel 4 last night which had erect penises in it. It was being talked about for weeks prior to air. Yet people still tuned in and then expressed their anger on twitter whilst watching it. Bonkers.
There is a young guy at work who I suggested should watch these new The Fast Show programs. Something I found highly amusing back in the 90s. He text me over the weekend explaining how racist the Scorchio scenes were and that clearly some of the characters had mental health issues and he wouldn’t be watching again....

WTF is wrong with people, has there been some kind of disease that has kills your sense of humour? Edited by oldaudi on Tuesday 1st September 23:39
The Fast Show is utterly hilarious, the weather reported sketch works well and is completely harmless in my opinion.
I also agree with Daniel that just because 5 people in the UK find something offensive it should be concluded the other 60mil aren't bothered not that the other 60mil all agree and were waiting for these ultra offended heroes to turn up.

So, so depressing. ]
Every night 5USA has to run the "contains ..., which some viewers may find offensive" tag before episodes of Law & Order Special Victims Unit.
Yep, no s
t - a tv show all about sex crimes, might just feature scenes, language, terms, etc, related to that subject - the title of the show pretty much infers it.
Still, the best ones are usually the warnings before things like Traffic Cops, Interceptors, etc, which normally warn you about bad driving, antisocial behaviour, rude words & hand gestures

Monty Python must be turning in his grave.. it used to be possible to have a laugh with more edgy stuff without having to worry. No longer, it seems.
I don't recall MP being offensive. I DO recall it being incomprehensible and not for a moment amusing.I can watch Morecambe and Wise without so much as a titter too.
But then I am probably the wrong age, being Generation X. Perhaps these seemingly banal shows were about rebellion against the starchy strait-lacedness of the past.
Was AYBO funny? Not hilariously. Did I laugh at it as a child? Probably. Has it made me prejudiced and intolerant of homosexuals and the vaginas of postmenopausal women? No.
It was of its time and needs no apologies.
It also instilled in me a desire to work in a department store which has never entirely left me.

When the full series of Friends was on Netflix recently, millennials were shocked, describing it as transphobic, homophobic and sexist, it also received criticism for its lack of diversity.
Society changes, and expectations change too. I watch (and laugh at) a whole bunch of old TV comedy shows (mostly forces.tv), but can't help but be surprised at the off hand and lazy racism and sexism which is sprinkled throughout some shows that would have been primetime TV in the 70's & 80's.On the subject of friends, I was never a fan of its fantasy of 'beautiful people' living the perfect life in NY. I prefer my comedy shows to be about fools and losers...
