Strange eye issue

Have an eye test booked but in the meantime am curious about others knowledge/experience.
I'm mid 50s. For years I've been slightly short sighted around -.75 or so in the left eye, and about -2 in the right, with a bit of astigmatism in the left and more in the right.
In the last few years reading has got hard work, so I've got some varifocals, I did notice at the last test that the myopia in my right eye had lessened slightly, apparently common at this age.
But just recently it seems to have lessened dramatically, to the point where I can read a number plate at 25 yards with my bad eye without glasses for the first time in 40 years.
On the face of it a good thing. But is it common for eyes to change so rapidly at my age? What could be causing it? How far will it continue? Will I end up long sighted in that eye?

As you age, many people become longer sighted. I wouldn't say yours may have changed significantly, but it can change rather quickly.
(I was already very long sighted, the result of an accident when I was very young, and in the last 2 years I've changed to varifocal lenses, and, last year, my scrip changed again - by quite a bit.
My scrip is now almost +6 ! )
