since about 2012 my PCM and iPhone have never really got on - phone works but music interface is pants - it plays but there is nothing displayed and you cannot control any phone music via the PCM - what can I do to get them talking to each other properly once more.

Just found a 14 year old iPod that works perfectly when plugged in!

Here's what I've been using for the past couple of years:

Certainly when using Apple Music on an iPhone you can control it from the PCM so my phone just lives in my pocket. Only snag I've found is my iPhone 11 Pro has an issue where if you stream music and have it paired to the PCM for calls at the same time the music stutters, so I disable PCM bluetooth to have trouble free streaming. There's a massive post on Apple's forums about it as it happens on loads of different cars. Specific to the 11 and 11 Pro though.

I have the same, it’s called a Bovee1000 now.
Exactly as above, works seamlessly but annoyingly now stutters with my iPhone 11pro.
The whole point of this devise was that it would swap between the PCMs connection and Bovee connection instantly if a call came through. So on my old iPhone this was flawless.

Due to the issues with the latest iPhone I’m genuinely considering having CarPlay retrofitted to my PCM3. Or going going ho and removing the bloody stereo altogether and get a hardcore centre console delete and some headphones. biggrin

I’ve been thinking the same about CarPlay. If Porsche did a replacement CarPlay unit like they’ve done for the 996 / 986 I’d have one in a heartbeat!
