Griff 500 new wheels, dash and stalks. Suggestions please?
Discussion
Hi all, Ive just bought a Griff and although I like the original look I feel a nice set of anthracite or similar wheels will set her off a little more and improve the handling. What are peoples thoughts on the Speedsters and I am still on 4 stud wheels so is there a recommended off set and size guide?
Secondly I want to upgrade the dash and switch gear. Is there a reputable recommended company you guys use who I can approach for ideas please?
Oh and the clock is kaput! i.e its working but I cant change the time!
Many thanks in advance.
Mike

To improve the handling you might find a four wheel alignment will be your best bet.
Many people who have this done find the handling so much better afterwards.
Go to a TVR specialist, not Kwik Fit.
If you fancy anthracite wheels, perhaps consider having the original Estorils re-painted.
A lot of people prefer to keep their cars factory, but a colour change is fine.
Sorry to the poster above, but I would keep the Estorils if you decide to have a change of wheels - they are rare.
If you do go down the change of wheels route, then you are ideally looking for 7.5J 4 x 108 wheels, front offset ET25 rear ET 33. Centre bore must be 63.2mm or bigger.
There is plenty of choice in 17 inch wheels, Ford fit 4 stud wheels mostly fit, though these are ET38, so you will need 5mm spacers. Fronts will still be fine at effectively ET33. If you want more detail on this them email me through my profile.
You can always create the nose down look by using wider tyres on the rear, for example 215/45 17 fronts, 235/45 17 rears.
Another choice of wheels are SP12s, sold by ACT TVR. Not cheap, but a good look. And the correct offset and fitment.

You don't say if your dials are cream or black faces. New clocks can be bought from Caerbont. Or they can repair your present one. Their Speedy Cables company do that work.

Thanks chaps that's very kind of you. I was looking through the wheels and found quite a few variations and I take your point on the original set of the car. Id probably keep the wheels as its useful to have them as part of any sale. Interior dials are silver at present on a Walnut dash.... again Im ok with originality but I dont like the wood look on a sports car and if variations are available now Im interested. Any one have some examples of a carbon look?
I have a set of new rims I've not fitted, and have changed my mind about, still boxed which may interest you.
Although they are gloss black and not anthracite in colour, 17x7.5 et32 and obviously 4x108, even have the spigot rings needed for the hubs, and TVR decals for the centers

I've had 17 inch wheels on for years, fancied a change

I have seen a carbon dash on a Griff SE - it's what decided me to go for a similar look in my Chimaera when the wood veneer started falling off in chunks.

But I have also seen a new classic wood veneer in Matt Poxon's Griff, and it really did look lovely. In the end it is down to what you think looks good

Also, my stalks are not Leven, but made by a lady called Anne Billyard, who works with her husband producing such stuff at a reasonable price and excellent quality.
You can find her on Faceache, just put her name in the search facility. The set of two stalks plus the handbrake grip is about £70 IIRC.

That looks lovely... Do you know where it came from? It just modernises it a bit. Ive nothing against the vaneer but its just a taste thing....

There are a number of choices available, from this all the way to a full carbon fibre dash, which I have seen someone make himself as I believe it's what he does for a living. Hydro-dipping is also a good way of achieving the result.
I wanted to add two more dials (oil temperature and Air Fuel Ratio), and had the veneer flaking off. A good and generous friend, lets call him Alun, gave me a spare steel dash (as that is what they are under the veneer). I stripped it and angle ground it to a smooth but not too smooth finish, and had the extra holes cut by a client of mine on his CNC machine. I then bought the sticky-backed plastic, which turned out to be nice quality, stuck it on and cut out the instrument holes. I also bought a new set of heater LEDs off the Bay of E.
I then realised that the instrument swap was more than I could achieve with guaranteed results, so gave the whole job to my TVR expert.

I like those wheels 4 x 17 are they and what make please? I could be tempted do you want to PM me some info and is the second shot a photo of them fitted?? Thanks
They are Wheelworx CE rims, I have 4 in the boxes they came in, never fitted so unmarked, and obviously as new, bought them as I fancied a change at the time, but other things have got in the way, and I've not got round to buying tyres and mounting them, was tripping over them in the Garage yesterday after reading your thread, so thought I might move them on.Looking for £250 for them
The picture outside is the current wheels I have, not these these.
