Estate Semi-Barge

Currently looking for something as a stop gap for the next 6-12mths.

Ideally an estate but would consider SUV
Petrol or Diesel
Would like for it to be able to tow
Budget 4k inc trade in
Rather not have something super complicated just fun to drive & can do long journeys
Would like something a bit unusual but okay with something standard

Currently on the list (not in order)
Volvo V60
Subaru Legacy
BMW 330d

Also have seen an S6 4.2 which has peaked my interest.

Got a 2012 V60 D3 as our baby wagon, love it. Fuel economy Vs performance not great, I get the impression the higher power diesel engines don't use much more fuel in the real world and the extra poke would be very welcome.

Munches miles like nothing else I've ever driven, great sound system and seats

What are these like for reliability? Ideally want something to run for a year without having to spend a fortune to keep it going?

Not many estates, saw one vrs but with the 2.0 pd which aren't the most reliable
