lost the love

with everything going on at the moment - anyone else really lost the love for their watches?

Not as such, although I’m wearing the same one pretty much every day as there aren’t the occasions to prompt me to wear a different one. I’m sure that will change again as normality returns.

yup - working from home means I only wear my Garmin now. Unlikely to ever work in an office again so considering selling the lot.

Not quite, but I only ever wear shorts/jeans and T shirts now; my wife and I are past the phase of going out anywhere fancy so feel overdressed wearing an expensive watch.

I don't want to start another 'Rolex bubble' thread, but it does make selling an attractive option.

What a miserable bunch!

I see the glass as half full, I wear my watches because I like them - whether that be at home or going out.

I've actually increased my collection over the last 6 months, and wear them all on rotation.

I don't see why the current situation should change that, it's like giving up on life.

My main worry is scratching the bracelets up on the laptop - at least in an office one can use a proper keyboard with a gel wrist support...


(I guess I can get a wrist support for the laptop, but it's just something else taking up room on a small table or my lap.)

I have got more into them! I actually don't like wearing an expensive watch to the office, and use a nice Christopher Ward or a Raymond Weil for that purpose. So I am wearing the nicer watches around the house more!

I did find myself splitting logs with an axe in my nicest watch the other day, somewhat absent-mindedly, and went inside to change if for my Seiko chrono immediately before I damaged it...

Explorer 2 is not too blingy to wear anywhere. Keep that and sell the rest. Buy a £10k sports/fun car and book a holiday for Feb 2021.

I think for me it has been a gradual change, initiated by working from home (pre-pandemic) and not really wearing a watch at all round the house. Realising this I then put all my watches into the safe and then pretty much forgot about them. Even when out the house these days I tend not to wear a watch.

Depends really if you need the liquidity now and through the pandemic - you can always buy again in the future.

isnt it the other way round? when working from home you can wear the most expensive and blingy watches without ever upsetting your colleagues or boss.

maybe, but it does not ever occur to me to put on a watch these days.

I sold my 5711 back at the start of all this and now I'm thinking of selling the rest and just keeping one SD.
