Looking to invest some reasonable sums of money over the next few months. We already have some investments in Gold which have performed very well this year but we'd like to look at other sectors which may be good value at the moment. Renewables has done well for us too over the last 5 years.

The key consideration on this occasion is areas that have performed badly over the last 6 months and we are making the assumption that a second wave of Corona-virus is not on the cards here in the UK.

Therefore if there is no second wave, what industries/sectors/companies should bounce back leading to an improving share price?

Airline industry is the obvious one as travel resumes however we've been burnt here before with the Thomas Cook collapse. Any others? What about oil related stuff since both demand and price has been on the floor for a while now? Would be interested to hear your predictions?

This is not intended to be a debate over whether a second wave will happen or not, just predictions based on the situation that a second wave does not happen.

Luke.

I like your optimism, but Spain and Italy are well in to their second wave, and the UK is probably 2 weeks behind (especially as schools are just going back).
I think those companies that have been hit hard by Covid are likely to be hit hard again, I'd wait 2-4 weeks before investing.

Wont be for at least a couple of weeks, need to do some research first. I'm assuming no second wave scenarios and don't want to be drawn into a discussion about whether or not a second wave will happen. For the purposes of this thread I'm assuming it won't. Doesn't mean this is necessarily right though but I'm happy to take that risk.

easyJet and Ryanair.
Even if they get to 80% of previous revenue you should be quids in. Surely if they go under then every city in Europe is screwed.

Also look at Informa, they do exhibitions etc. So will bounce back at some stage

Intelligent money (thread above) have launched pH recovery fund which could be ideal for your requirements.

The fund comprises a bunch of stocks in the UK that have been disproportionately hit by cv19 which should recover by a substantial amount in short order.

Could be wrong, as not looked into it recently, but think you're getting confused with their other PH fund.

You're so sure there won't be a second wave in the UK?

Forget oil. It's on the floor for more reasons than COVID. My former employer's shares, in this sector, are at mid 1990's values with little on the horizon to encourage optimism. Layoffs have been at slaughter level this year.

Don't touch any UK lithium company with a stick. Don't even touch it with a stolen stick

Cheers Grant. smile

It is 16 stocks in the hospitality (hotels and pubs), airline and cruise liner sectors, together with some more left field ones such as Next (strong online and retail park presence, but still hit as if it we a normal high street business) and ITV (advertising demand knocked during lockdown).

They are all strong companies, hit only by CV19, and we will pull each stock out into cash when they hit (or are near) their pre CV19 levels.

If you want a list of the holdings just post on The Intelligent Money thread. I can't tell you how we weight each stock, but it may give you some ideas.
