Posted before on the same subject. Real ale fan, local served Hobsons, which I liked a lot. Local now closed and unlikely to reopen for the foreseeable. We shall have to see what fate awaits.

Meanwhile I'm still trying to find a bottled beer to suit. Local brewery is Purity, not much to my taste although I do like a Mad Goose. Proper Job (St Austells) has a decent flavour, so currently on my favourite list.

Both chilled are good summer ales, but I'll a good cellar temp beer for autumn/winter.

Suggestions welcome.

I've tried Black Sheep + some Fursty Ferret, unchilled, good but doesn't quite hit the spot.

My favourite keg ( Hobsons) do some bottled stuff, again doesn't cut the mustard.

For autumn and winter:Shepherd Neame 1698, King Goblin, Old Crafty Hen, Guinness West Indies Porter and Old Peculier spring to mind

For summer then Proper Job would be my go to ale, Abbot Reserve is decent and Shepherd Neame do a rather hoppy IPA that is almost as nice as Proper Job.

I'm a member of Tring brewery they do some great ales biggrin. Death or Glory is something else but Colley's Dog and Pale Four are my choice out of the core range.

They now have a keg range and Raven King is fantastic

I drink quite a lot of proper job as it's £1.49 at Lidl, and it tastes quite good!

I quite like Harvey's best in a bottle.

Or a stout or mild. Everything seems to be some kind of pale ale these days, sometimes you want something else!

McEwens champion ale is one of my favourite autumn/winter ales. Available at most supermarkets.

That's on my very short list of weaker beers that are still good. Had it as a fairly regular guest in my pub; always sold well. Lovely people the Tring lot, as well.
Another Proper Job drinker here, though it's Old Peculier for me at the mo', 3 for £5 at my nearest shop.

Great choice i picked up a few bottles recently, might be too 'full on' for some ale drinkers but would be the perfect choice after being outdoors on a cold winters eveningdrink

On the subject of strong winter ale's, then Old Tom is lovely:

Sticks.

For a while, Tesco was doing quite a range of bottled beers so I worked though a few.

I liked Ghost Ship and Shipyard, but found them a bit overpowering, Sharp's Atlantic was easier to drink. I really liked the citrus flavour of Ringwood Circadian but I've not seen it for a while. Whitstable Bay was OK, better in the pub.

If you like Proper Job, they did Big Job for a while, for those in a hurry.

At the other end of the spectrum Bank's Amber Ale, 3.8. Nothing special about it, nothing wrong with it, a cooking or session bitter, 89p/500ml.

Landlord is very good in bottle (perhaps a little gassy compared to the cask version but compared to other bottled beers a king)
