I liked both The Tower restaurant at the museum and No 1 at the Balmoral (not cheap that one) but that was years ago.

Number 1 and Kitchin are the two best in my view. Dishoom is fabulous too but not unique to here.

Dusit is a Thai restaurant and great. Ondine is a fish restaurant and fantastic too. Lots of choice here which surprised me when I followed my heart up here 10 years ago.

The Wee Restaurant in North Queensferry, get any of the several trains out of Waverley, over the Rail Bridge, only ten minutes or so, last train back is quite late. It's small and friendly and when we went the food was fantastic. You can wander down to teh shore of the Firth and get right under the bridge itself

Lived in Edinburgh for a while, favourite restaurant was probably Iris on Thistle Street, there's a nice cocktail bar nearby too - the Bon Vivant.

Spent a long weekend in Edinburgh some 12-15 years back, one evening we wandered into 20 Princes Street, a restaurant that was on a par with the ones that we use at home in London, e.g. Le Pont de la Tour and The Blue Print in Butlers Wharf, Bermondsey, or Plateau and Amerigo Vespucci at Canary Wharf.
The decor, food, and service were great at 20 Princes Street, the only fly in the ointment was that the espresso coffee machine was out of service, but it was still an enjoyable place to be.

I have been looking at this as I am staying in Hotel Indigo, this restaurant is in our hotel.

Was at Dishoom this week and it was lovely.
Note that at 11pm most bars were closed.
Never seen Edinburgh like that !! Book early and get a space, you don’t want to be disappointed.
Friends I was meeting went for drinks at The Balmoral and dinner at The Ivy the day before.

Tanjore is a fabulous South Indian place.
Not bang in the centre but cabs are so cheap ....

I was gonna mention Tanjore, superb. The best paratha I’ve ever eaten I think.

Longish wait I assume you mean... seems pretty impossible to get a weekend booking there... I’ve been trying for ages. Next available Fri or Sat is 9.15 on 8th January.
