I've no feelings about Horner one way or the other, he plays the media game like any other team principal. But I'd wager my last pound he couldn't say this with a straight face.

The hypocrisy is off the chart staggering.

A bit Freudian considering how they are treating Albon and have treated Webber and Ricciardo.

Thinking about it, I bet this remark came in response to being asked about Albon’s inferior car bits.

Huh. So running cars on the same strategy in the same modes, allowing them to race is favouring hamilton?

Strange, because if Mercedes did as Horner suggest, that would mean they would be favouring Bottas?

Just the usual BS mind games from Horner because his chosen one isn’t winning....I bet if Bottas was leading, they put hamilton on a 2 stop and allowed him to win he would be saying the same...

Ooo I dunno. Perhaps not blatantly to the untrained eye but Hamilton is clearly the team lead and Bottas, despite the patronising media comments suggesting "Valtteri Mk2" and all that guff, he's a clear No.2 to Hamilton ...

Mercedes gives the drivers the same chances, unlike other outfits. The choice to go first alternates between race weekends. With all that said, if there was a slightly more biased support why would you not favour Hamilton against Bottas? Which one of the 2 will bring home points, etc more reliably? That means money, huge money. It’s not personal, just business.

Like the persona or not, does Hamilton needs to prove his worth? I think he has done... many times.

Horner is just playing games, Redbull is just like Ferrari in driver management if not worse.

Mercedes is as fair as it gets imo.

On talent....not in contracts, team orders etc.

They are free to race, they are on the same strategy 95% of the time, they receive the same parts etc etc.

Big difference to what’s happening at red bull and with Ferrari ala Schumacher. Yes Max, Seb and Schumacher were better than their teammates, but they had a big helping hand to do it

Jut because Red Bull might favour one driver over another doesn't mean that any opinion they have on what another team is doing is then null and void.

....just horners opinion is null and void. He’ll whinge at anything these days.

I’m surprised if he isn’t watching the lunch queue at Mercedes just in case Lewis is in front

Mercedes have treated both drivers equally for a long time - even to the point of not putting them on different strategies sometimes, where it would mean one might overtake the other artificially.

The only time they’ve ever used team orders was when one car had a problem, or when only one driver had a shot at the title against someone from another team. Apart from that, they don’t care which driver finishes ahead so long as they maximise championship points for the team.

Ask Daniel Ricciardo what he thinks of Red Bull’s relative treatment of their two drivers.

max and bottas are effectively fighting for 2nd aren't they, I guess Horner is just trying to unsettle the Finn. About his level.

Realises they aren’t quick enough so trying to upset the Mercedes Apple cart...maybe make Bottas do something rash to beat hamilton...who knows, it’s horner...my BS usually switches on when he starts to talk

They are many variables in determining which driver a team favours, there is a lot more to it that just race strategy or other things that are publicly viewable.

If anyone here thinks they have access to enough information to determine whether or not Hamilton and Bottas are equal they are severely overrating their own knowledge.

I think that after today's showdown we can understand that smug spice is just getting bit desperate.

Horner: Throws a slight at Merc for driver prioritising.

Merc: Smash RB in quali today in-spite of the quali-mode rule that Horner pushed for, naively thinking it would disable them.

Mercedes win.

However all the information we do possess points to equal treatment.

Same strategy, same engine mode, repeatedly told they are free to race, Bottas only told to move over twice in 4 years only when out of the championship hunt, same parts.

Compare that to Schumacher, Vettel, Max....and you can’t, with a straight face say the same....

I suppose they favour Lewis by not having Max in the team wink

Absolutely.

Just as they did him a big favour by recruiting Bottas.

Bottas will never be allowed to beat Hamilton over a season. That’s clear.

I don’t have an issue with that, just the idea that they’re competing against each other. That hasn’t happened since 2016.

Mercedes tried to sign Verstapen summer 2017 but MV renewed his contrat with Redbull. Looks like Verstapen got a little bit anxious facing real competition with the same tools and no favouritism.
