We can confirm that at approximately 12:30am today (Sunday 6 September) we were called to reports of a stabbing in Birmingham city centre. We immediately attended, along with colleagues from the ambulance service. A number of other stabbings were reported in the area shortly after.
We are aware of a number of injured people, but at the moment we are not in a position to say how many or how serious. However, all emergency services are working together at the scene, and making sure that those who are injured receive medical care.
This has been declared a major incident.

Sounds to me more like some sort of gang trouble than terror attack.
Not sure, sounds like it’s happened in the Gay Village area, however around the same time an actual gang stabbing happened in Bexleyheath with 5 injured and is being reported as such....a gang fight. The media always know more than they say, these kinds of headlines seem to come before terror attacks and the Gay Village with roads closed would fit as a target. Hope I’m wrong but knife attacks seem to be the M.O at the moment.

Gang related incidents are common and would rarely be declared a major incident and are very quickly publicised as such.
They are usually targeted and don’t involve a stabfest of random people enjoying a night out
No doubt it will become clearer but i doubt its gang related
Sounds like the end of wedding bash to me.

She said she had finished her shift at about 00:30 BST and was drinking with colleagues when she heard a "loud bang and quite a lot of commotion".
She added: "I found multiple people having fist fights... people from inside pubs and clubs came out and started to see what was going on.
"There were females, males, old people, young people, such a mix of people, it didn't seem real at the time.

Seems like a normal Saturday evening in Birmingham to me. Witness Cara Curran said:

One dead, two critically injured, many more stabbed.
The two areas are a good 10-15 mins apart on foot.
My first thoughts when I heard about this today was of the Gay Village and a certain cultural dislike of homosexuals.
I drove past the Colmore Row scene a few mins ago...there were blood drops for about 20m on one of the pavements.

To be reported as news it’s either more than gang related or a slow news weekend. Gang stabbings in Birmingham are pretty common and don’t make the news as much nowadays, let alone be declared as a major incident.
The gang angle seems unlikely to me as it began in the Gay Village. Not the usual hangout zone for any of the "gangster" types we have here. The police say they are looking for one person; two distinct zones of stabby activity makes gang stuff even more unlikely if you ask me.
Plus a girl was stabbed. That is unusual for gang stuff.

I work in the city centre and live not far south of there too. I’d say gang related stabbings are not that common and do make the news when they occur...even the electrical fire at the Cadbury Club was reported nationally...suppose that could have been a super slow news day though.I also still see such stabbings in London in the news, of which I’d assume there are more. In fact, today prior to seeing this story in the news, I saw news articles about 7 stabbings in/across London.
Police open murder investigtion. One person dead and a number of others injured during incidents near Birmingham's Hurst Street and Snow Hill areas on Saturday night, which the police have said appear to be "random attacks" by the same suspect.
There we go then, not gang related.
'The stabbings do not appear terrorism related, gang related or connected to disorder, West Midlands Police said.'
Interesting conclusion seeing as they havent found the guy who did it. I bet its snackbar related.

I turned up at a wedding in Hoxton Market, nth London, in 1977 or 78. All sides were represented in the cells, with the mother of the bride being particularly vocal about the groom, who was also a guest. The bride was not nicked. There was just the one stabbing, memorably with the knife intended to cut the cake. No deaths, but one bloke, the previous boyfriend of the bride, was given a going over and a kicking. On the side of his torso you could see the marks were the assailants' laces had cut into his skin. Not nice.
London can't compete with Manchester.

My BIL lives close and could hear the commotion. From a few people he spoke to it just appears like another unfortunate side effect of CV and lockdown. The police say they are looking for one person; two distinct zones of stabby activity makes gang stuff even more unlikely if you ask me.
