Is this a scam - paypal?

Wife selling ps4 plus games.
Buyer makes an offer, will send by paypal (but not through ebay - red alert already!)

Wife removes from ebay.

Woman asks for postage.
Wife asks for payment.

Payment held by Paypal until tracking number provided.
Ebay do this, PayPal however is just a payment system so wouldn't care less about a deal between 2 people.

The "official" email from Paypal had a reply email of [e-mail].

It says:
 

Thanks for using PayPal. You can now ship the item.

Im not believing any of this and told my wife never so the deal outside of ebay...ffs.

PayPal just got back to me, they said that email address says "scam".

Absolutely a scam when it's come from a non paypal email address!

There's also the likelihood that eBay may still charge the Final Value Fee if they have enough proof that you have concluded a sale outside of eBay.

Paypal emails are from @paypal.co.uk or @paypal.com. Not Outlook. They've got their own space program, they don't need MS's free emails!!

Have to admit, I'd be tempted to put a fake tracking number in.

Just to be nosey really to see how far they are willing to take the scam and any other techniques they will try.

Bad enough with the scammers claiming items didn't arrive or are faulty & returning one that you didn't send.
Don't ebay & paypal have big warnings about not dealing outside as you lose any protection? - whatever 'protection' that might be.
The issue you now have having told her is that if/when it all goes wrong it will be your fault.

Im a bit baffled- the scammer even sent a postal address. Perhaps they know there would be no-recourse? Thats assuming i dont pay them a visit, which to be fair I actually would with a small army.

The 'authorities' would not be interested, so they'd get away with it.

And who would you be visiting with your army?

This woman your wife is/was dealing with doesn't exist.

If you start entertaining offers outside eBay using eBay’s messaging system, chances are if you’re not careful it’ll be flagged for review, with the above outcome being a possibility.

Scammers tend to either scam another innocent person into being their mail box or use an address that the parcel can be intercepted easily. The stupid ones use their own address (have seen that where scammers use forum classifieds!), although getting your money/item back from a scammer is very hard, even if you take it to court.

Well they provided an address that presumably does exist - they needed the goods posting to an address.However it would probably be a waste of time as you suggest.

Luckily nothing happened so its all academic. Its scary how crafty these low-lifes are though.
