Right so I might be looking for the impossible here but I’m asking anyway,
I’ve been on the hunt for a second car for B road fun, occasional track use and the occasional car meet.

I’m ideally looking for something fast, coupe (doesn’t have to be though), rwd if possible and eye catching, however for the budget of 7k or less.

Now insurance is a sort of worry as I’m youngish, however as it’s a second car mpg isn’t an issue as my daily is an electric Peugeot e-208 gt.

Cars I’ve looked at:
Civic type r (fn2)
Nissan 250z (although for 7k they all seem somewhat ropey)
Celica 190 gt

Cars that insurance say no on:
S2k
Impreza wrx
Meganne RS 250

Any suggestions would be grateful, and also I’m trying to steer clear of mx5’s and mr2 mk3’s as I’ve had mx5’s in the past and in looking for something with a tad more power.

i thought about the clios, if i were to get one id probably just get the r26 meg as it seems as though they are an under rated car, however the reliablily im unsure about

A 2zz or K20 converted mk3 MR2 would be my weapon of choice, feels a very special place when compared to the ones suggested (I know you said no mr2s, sorry)

Doesn’t meet your criteria but do take a look at a mk7 ST if you’re looking at Clio’s/meganes etc.

They really do live up to the hype. Sold mine a couple of months ago and already looking to buy one back as a fun second car. Really easily and cheaply tuneable too.

i never considered that, whats the cost on having a swap like that? and the only reason i say no mk3 is becuase of the power or lack of. and as well as that its insurance, i have no idea how sky high the premium would go when they see ive put a k20 in there

MX5 with a turbo conversion for more power?

Failing that, try something with much less weight like a MG Midget 1275, I find that fun is found in something light, convertible and with 2 seats plus a good power to grip ratio rather than some 1.25 ton hatchback, but that's me.

2zz swaps (190bhp) are priced around 3k upwards, good supercharged (>220 bhp) 2zz swaps are around 5k upwards (but can be had cheaper), there was a lovely converted supercharged one for sale recently for 7k, K20 conversions are slightly rarer but I've seen them for 5.5k upwards, but realistically is >7k for a good one.
If you can find a v6 swapped one you have a mini Evora.

What about a clio trophy ? good fun and limited run out .

Or a clio cup , also limited and factory lightened so no abs, air con , thick glass , sound deadening to mess up the power to weight.

Re reliability look how many clio 172/182 are still in daily use , go along to any track day and just look how many clios are driven there , thrashed all day then driven home .

Should get a decent MR2 Turbo for £7k.

They're quick, relatively rare and seemingly starting to appreciate.

If the IMS hasn’t gone by now, it will be fine.

When I was 25, the cheapest insurance quote I could get was 79 grand laugh
