Washer fluid 981
Discussion
In 5 years, 40k miles, I've filled my washer fluid once. Use it an average amount in all weathers.
Noticed washers seemed sluggish last week and remembered to top up the fluid today.
Put one shot of Porsche fluid in, then tried to get 2ltr water in but it only took an egg cup's worth until full.
Washers working, albeit slightly bubbly (due to fluid concentrate I guess) so what's going on?
Is my car creating water somehow? Air lock? Blockage? Any ideas?
Thanks.

Reservoir is big. Get's topped up at routine services?
Sluggish washers suggest the supply pipes are glooped up - which you get with cheapo screenwash fluid. I find the pukka Porsche stuff very good. You have some now but have you always used it?
Pukka Porsche stuff is mostly summer grade though, that’s when people add the cheaper antifreeze stuff. Sluggish washers suggest the supply pipes are glooped up - which you get with cheapo screenwash fluid. I find the pukka Porsche stuff very good. You have some now but have you always used it?

I use neither, instead I buy the genuine BMW concentrated washer fluid (in a 5L container) and use it in all my cars, irrespective of brand.

It is however imperative you run any existing washer fluid/water mix out of the reservoir , then refill the reservoir at least half full with plain water, and run this out, before adding the BMW fluid and water. Failure to do so may lead to the differing fluids reacting and forming a gel that will block jets and pipework alike.
Disclaimer : Use of non-Porsche approved washer fluid will no doubt void both the manufacturers and extended Porsche warranties in the event of a blocked washer jet scenario....
Car came to me with half a bottle of Porsche fluid and I've always used it.
Amazed just one tiny shot keeps it from freezing in the winter. Good stuff.
Just booked in for MOT and Chris at GCR says there may be some sludge in the reservoir, particularly if not used frequently, so it may need a wash out which he'll do at the same time. It'll get sorted I'm sure.

Alsway used BMW washer fluid also - still got some left from when you could buy it in 20L containers. VAG stuff is very good too.
My Porsche uses W5 (Aldi) stuff - really good but not suitable for low temperatures however it’s not a daily driver and doesn’t do cold weather.
Most reported problems, especially BMWs, tend to be caused by mixing different products so as per the earlier advice I’d recommend a good flush through with water before refilling unless you are certain it is the same product being added.
