I see this small prop plane every weekend flying over a park near our house. It’s shaped like a boomerang. Does anyone know what it is? Sorry for it being so small in the photo, I only have my phone with me when I see it.

Is the wing at the front or the back?

Could be one of the Rutan designs

I saw a rutan varieze over Glasgow Airport the other week. Certainly looks like it.

Thank you so much guys - I’m fairly sure it’s a Rutan. I’ll read up on them tonight. A really unique looking aircraft. I knew I could count on your knowledge. This place is very far removed from General Gassing biggrin

I wonder why I see him doing this same route all the time? I take our two year old to the park most weekends between 3 and 5, and guaranteed this plane will fly over at the same time on the same heading, at the same altitude.

Get flight radar installed on your phone. See if it pops up on there next time it's overhead.

I’ve got that and love it, but thought it was just commercial aircraft? I may be wrong - I’ll have a look.

If it’s transponder equipped and squawking, it ought to show up.

Great - thanks. I’ll check it out this weekend. That’d be great, as it’ll show where he’s flying from and to.

My two year old loves spotting planes - it’s a shame there aren’t any air shows this year. I had wondered whether any local airfields allowed public viewing.

Have a look at The Shuttleworth Collection website , they have a few drive in air shows, only older aircraft though. They are at Old Warden , Bedfordshire.

Most smaller airfields have public viewing areas. Some even have cafes or restaurants. Near where I am Blackbushe, Fairoaks and Popham all have these facilities.

The airfields I mentioned are all close to you. So is White Waltham.

Thank you. I’ll look into taking him soon. Popham is the closest to us.

Popham is a lovely grass strip right next to the A303. It has a nice collection of interesting light and sports aircraft. In a normal year they host a number of themed fly-ins but these have been curtailed this year- for obvious reasons.

White Waltham is a great place, a good variety of light aircraft and the occasional Spitfire or Hurricane dropping in. The only snag is that the cafe is members only. Blackbushe doesn't usually have quite the same variety but does have a cafe with a good view of the flying.

I’ve just looked at the app to check out another plan over us right now, and I discovered that it has a history feature, so I scrolled back to the time and place and bang - there was this plane .I keep seeing, along with a record of all its flights. He or she is going from Solent Airport to Sleap Airfield. Perhaps it’s a commute, thus the time on a Sunday?
